An article Victoria's State of Shame by Chris Munro has just been published. Unfortunately as with many statements it contains very little in the way of facts with regard to Angus McMillan. There is no doubt he was probably involved in reprisals against the Indigenous population in Gippsland but not as Munro states in great detail that he rampaged around the country killing all Kurnai that he could find. The story that he relates is very similar to that written in Blood on the Wattle by Bruce Elder where he created an imaginative account of events at Warrigal creek detailing the instructions McMillan supposedly gave to his 'posse'. Then saying the posse moved through the area leaving a trail of bodies and blood killing at every opportunity.
Truth telling is important for our history, the good and the bad needs recording but it must be based on fact not based on statements accepted for years without substantiation
