One thing life has taught me is that it doesn't take long for one person choosing to act to change what happens next.

I've seen it in workplaces, in the media, in team chats and in everyday life.

It often starts with:
"I'm joking."

Sometimes people join in because they're trying to fit in, deflect, or avoid becoming the next target themselves.

That doesn't make it okay.

But I've learned there's often more going on underneath it than we can see.

Support doesn't always have to be a big thing.
It can be checking in with the person who was targeted.

Saying, "That's enough."
Changing the subject.
Standing beside the person who looks uncomfortable.
Or getting help early if things start to feel unsafe.

And sometimes, knowing when not to step in yourself is part of helping too.

I'm not an expert. Sharing some of the thing's life has taught me along the way.

Sometimes we forget that we're seeing a snapshot of someone else's life.

The good bits.
The funny bits.
The moments worth sharing.

And sometimes they really do have it all together.

But we don't see everything.
The conversations, the doubts, the ordinary stuff, the things they're figuring out behind the scenes.

So if someone else's life looks more together than yours today, remind yourself:

You're seeing the highlights.
Not the group chat.

What's something good happening for you that wouldn't make the highlight reel?

Tried, Tested & Loved 🕯️

You know when you find something and think… yep, I love this!
These candles are that for me. ❤️

They’re made by one of my besties in New Zealand and I absolutely love them.

Beautiful scents, beautifully made, and not overpowering which is a big tick in my book.

And they look pretty gorgeous too.

This one is Rainbow Sherbet
Sweet, fresh and happy.

So, this one gets my Tried, Tested & Loved tick. ✅

Go check out this small business run by a very talented person. 🇳🇿❤️

I came across this and found it fascinating.

Pain is more than a message travelling from one part of the body to the brain. Our experience of pain involves different parts of the brain working together including areas connected with sensation, emotion, attention and memory.

It made me think about how differently we can experience the same thing.

And perhaps that's another reminder that we can't always see what someone else is experiencing from the outside.

I'm not a medical professional, someone who finds the way we experience life, our bodies and each other pretty fascinating.

What's something you've learned about yourself that surprised you?

I see you. 🤍

This year has been an interesting one of twists and turns, for myself and for a few others I know.
For me, I thought surgery had resolved my adenomyosis and in that sense, it has. But when something has such a huge impact on your body, it can leave an imprint that doesn't simply disappear when the immediate problem does.

A cold or virus, and suddenly your body remembers.
The fatigue.
The discomfort.
The feeling of being unwell.
The vulnerability.

And perhaps that's one of the loneliest parts you may still be fighting something that everyone else thinks you've already moved past.

So, if you're feeling like your friends, family or the people around you don't remember, don't always take their silence as not caring. Sometimes people don't know what you are still carrying.

I see you.

If you're struggling, reach out to someone you trust or a local support service

I've spent a lot of life thinking I needed a good enough reason to stop.
Sometimes I still do.

But perhaps we don't always need to justify a pause,
a morning doing not a lot,
changing our plans or simply saying, not today.
Life isn't a race to see how much we can squeeze into it.

I have found for me the most mindful thing I can do is listen to myself before the world gets a chance to tell me what I should be doing.

What are you giving yourself permission to do or not do today?

Wordz Can®...honours International Day of Charity.

We often think charity is something we give.
Money. Food. Clothing. Time.

But sometimes, charity is something we do.

We notice someone who needs help.
We make an introduction.
We share a story.
We volunteer.
We listen.
We speak up.
We make room.

None of these things may feel like much on their own.

But kindness rarely works that way.

It gathers.

Today, International Day of Charity is a reminder that we don't have to change the whole world to make a difference in someone's.

Sometimes, we need to notice where we can help and choose to do something about it.

And to the charities, volunteers and everyday people who keep showing up for others: thank you ❤️

Wordz Can is my way of sharing life. My experiences, the experiences of others, the wisdom we collect along the way, and the little things that might guide, uplift or motivate your day.

This year, I seem to have developed a new skill…

A red belt in hospital visits. 🥋

My latest came courtesy of tonsillitis, which decided my voice needed a few days off.

So, for a few days, I was quieter than usual.

And perhaps there was something to take from that.

When your voice goes quiet, there’s a little more room to think.

To rest.

To listen.

Sometimes we don’t choose the pause.

Life chooses it for us.

But perhaps the pause can still give us something.

A chance to notice what we’ve been too busy to notice.

A reminder that rest isn’t something we always have to earn.

And sometimes, doing less creates space for what matters.

Maybe you don’t need to wait for life to press pause for you.

Take care, everyone. ❤️

As you pass others this week,

Some you'll remember.
Some won't remember you.

But one gesture...
one smile...
one thoughtful question...

might become part of someone's week in a way you'll never know.

☕ You don't always get to know what your kindness meant.

Perhaps elephants have something to teach us here.

They’re not exactly known for being small or easy to overlook, yet it’s often the little things we do that leave the biggest footprints in someone else’s life. 🐘

Sir Sam Neill. Dolly Parton. Tim Curry. Peter Cullen, who was both Optimus Prime and Eeyore. A stretch of days that took some incredible voices with it.

Maybe it's just me, but I've felt the weight of it.
If you've felt a little flatter than usual too, you're not alone.

Some weeks feel heavier than others. And sometimes there's nothing to write, fix or make sense of. You just feel it.

What's stayed with you this week?
And if it’s been a hard one, reach out to someone. It doesn’t have to be about any of this.
