True Vision Vol. 1: Ferg
Isaac Ferguson is a cool, calm and collected talent originally hailing from Wagga Wagga. Currently residing among the hills in Bangalow, NSW, Isaac is a graphic designer, illustrator, muralist, the list goes on and on. To keep things short and sweet, we chose him for a reason and that is because everything this guy touches turns to gold. Interview below.
V: Tell us a bit about yourself?
I: My name is Isaac, I’m 22 years old and live and work out of my home in Bangalow. I’ve been doing freelance graphic design for the last 2 years and do a lot of drawing in my spare time. I love making a good playlist and repeating songs until I’m sick of them. Spotify outed me by telling me I played Money Trees 102 times in a day last January. I feel super lucky to be surrounded by so many great people and I’m always happy when I’m around my pals.
V: How and when did you get into this creative process of yours?
I: I’ve always drawn and been pretty creative overall but I started taking it more seriously when I started studying design. I got my first client in 2018 and my design work slowly snowballed into a full-time gig. Now I get to do a range of projects like murals and branding which I really enjoy. I love drawing in my spare time, I’m really keen to hustle more with my art and sell my originals and prints in the future.
V: What is the best advice you have been given?
I: “Seriously, you’re an artist, so for your sake and every other artist out there charge what it’s worth.”
V: Where do you think you draw the most influence from?
I: I follow a lot of different creatives. Some of my favourites off the top of my head are Gabriella Bowden, Agnes Grochulska, Helen Koker, Brydie Mack and Alleyway Designs. I also really like to study light and the feminine form in my art-making. I’m lucky that a lot of my friends are creative as well, so I would say we bounce off and influence each other a lot too.
V: What do you like most about what you do?
I: I feel very lucky that I get to be creative for work. I love that every week and project is so different from the last. I never really get a change to get bored.
