PERFECTIONISM IS SNEAKY 🤨

I run a Live session every month with the members of the Designed to Grow (my Canva for IG program), and recently I helped a student refine her brand colours. The moment we landed on a palette she loved, she said: “Great! Now I can’t wait to delete all my old posts so everything matches.”

Uhm… I paused. I get it, I’ve done that too.

We tend to care SO MUCH about how our feed looks, how our designs look. We want things to feel cohesive. We want our brand to look “right.”

But here’s the truth: a perfect-looking feed won’t get you clients.

🤓 Valuable content will.

Most people don’t stop their scroll because your palette is consistent.

They stop because the post speaks to a problem they have, a feeling they relate to, or something they genuinely want to learn. Am I right?

PERFECTIONISM tells you that your content isn’t performing because your colours are off or your layout isn’t perfect.

But likely it’s simply that you’re not giving yourself the chance to *show up consistently* and share what you know without HIDING behind what I call “pretty excuses” – your colour palette, your font choices, or the Canva graphics you’re using.

Your visuals can evolve. They should evolve.

But don’t let perfectionism be the reason you hide.

Your content – not your colour palette – is what builds trust.

Are you guilty of this? Tell me, what is your “PRETTY EXCUSE”? 👇🏽

The last few weeks have been full in every direction 🌀

Family visiting from overseas, wrapping up a client website I loved working on, hosting my monthly DTG live sessions…all while navigating baby sleep experiments, very broken nights, and a new autoimmune diagnosis.

It’s been a season of shifting routines and doing what’s possible day by day. Not out of guilt, just life happening (the best season of it I must say! 🥰)

Things are slowly looking up and feeling a little more settled. So if you want to help me out, tell me in the comments what you’d like to see more of as I pick things back up.

I’ll be sharing more content again – and I’m glad you’re here for it.

APPLY GRADIENT TO TEXT!

Finally, no more apps needed 🙌🏽

In you can now add gradients directly to your text.

Just select your text, open the colour panel, choose the gradient tab, and choose your colours.

You can use gradients to create a gold or metallic effect, like the gold example I did here!

Ever feel like your brand colours just aren’t working?

Maybe they look nice when you see them side by side, but on your designs they feel… Off. Messy. Amateur. 🫠

Here’s the truth: your colours are not just there to look pretty. They set the tone for how people experience your brand (and they should be easy to work with!)

If your palette doesn’t align with the vibe you want to project, your message won’t land. Your ideal client won’t resonate as much as they could.

That’s why I follow this 5-step process when building palettes for branding projects (and what I teach inside DTG). It keeps colours both strategic and creative, so they look good AND work hard for your brand.

There’s A LOT of noise out there about how Instagram “really” works 👀… but not everything you hear is true. In fact, most of it is actually a misleading hook – some people these days will try everything to get your attention 😒

Here are 5 common rumours about IG content creation + growth that you can stop believing today:

🚫 Scheduling posts lowers your reach
🚫 Saying “link in bio” willd ecrease your reach
🚫 Following accounts in your niche makes you grow faster
🚫 The algorithm is against small accounts
🚫 Editing captions kills your reach

Truth? None of these are deal-breakers for your growth. What does matter is creating content that’s consistent, strategic, and connects with the right audience.

Which one of these myths have you believed before? 👇

FEELING ROMANTIC?! 💘

Some beautiful (and not so obvious) colour combos for romantic and feminine brands... from soft and neutral to more bright and vibrant, romantic can have many sides 💐

If any of these feels like it would match your brand or a design you’re working on, save this or screenshot it to have it handy! 📸

This week I went live with the Designed to Grow members and helped one of them who was feeling stuck with the looks – colours, fonts, and graphic elements 🫠

This reminds me of something I see all the time: SO MANY PEOPLE pick Canva templates and design elements just because they look nice.

But design isn’t just about the looks, it’s about communication.

The colours you choose, the fonts you use, the little elements you add – all of them work together to create a perception, based on feelings. And these feelings will help people instantly recognise your brand, connect with it, and remember it. 🙌🏼

So BEFORE you jump in Canva and fill your design with “pretty things” (I know, Canva is full of them 🫠), ask yourself those important questions.

It was great working with you to transform your design with intention, Katie!

SAVE THIS RETRO FONTS in CANVA 🍸

These retro style of fonts can be a stylish choice. They can make your designs more trendy, give it that cool touch, and bring back some old-school 70s vibes. It all depends on the context and the message you want to communicate 🙃

But hey! ⚠️ Before you start using these styles, first make sure you can justify your choice. Does it really match your brand vibe, or are you just trying to change things up and be “trendy”? Anything too trendy can easily become overused and dated.

Also - this style of fonts should be used sparingly - mainly for display and titles - never for longer paragraphs of text as they are typically difficult to read.

Which of these fonts is your favourite? Comment below👇🏽
