In this clip from Horse Chats Episode with Raquel Butler – “10 Must-Know Facts About Injury Rehabilitation”, Raquel explains why rehab is now an essential part of modern horse ownership.

Injuries aren’t just “behaviour” or something a paddock break can fix. From post-surgical care to fence accidents and everyday wear and tear, horses need informed, collaborative rehabilitation with the vet, bodyworker, owner and the horse all playing a role.

“Love means attention, which means looking after the things we love. We call this stable management.” – George Morris

This episode with Trish Braithwaite brings that principle into the centre of good horsemanship. Trish explains why true influence in the saddle comes not from power, but from position, balance, and a rider’s ability to communicate through the seat.

Drawing on her international experience across Malaysia, Florida, Spain and Germany, Trish shares how different environments shape horse care, why you don’t need to own a horse to progress, and how attention to biomechanics leads to better outcomes for both horse and rider.

If you believe effective training begins with doing what is best for the horse, this conversation offers valuable insight from a highly respected coach, trainer, judge and author.

What really happens when a horseman who’s ridden rodeo, worked stunts and trained hundreds of horses suddenly loses all confidence?
And what does it take to rebuild it from the ground up?

In this conversation, Adam Sutton opens up about the moment everything fell apart, why “if it’s not working, it’s still okay,” and how that breakdown transformed his entire approach to training, mindset and connection with the horse.

From burnout in the racing industry to mentoring at Equitana…
From starting colts to helping riders overcome fear…
From pushing through injuries to discovering empathy the hard way…
Adam’s story is full of the kind of honesty most horse people never say out loud but everyone needs to hear.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, unsure, or like you’re the only one struggling, this episode might change how you see yourself, your horse and the training process.

When working with new riders, I start with the basics. Catching and haltering a horse properly sets the foundation for everything that follows.

Key points I teach:

Find the long strap first when the halter is scrambled
Lead rope goes under the neck and back over for safety
Place the rope carefully, don't flick it over
Always complete the buckle fully

You teach beginners the same way you teach horses - with proper technique from day one. Small details matter for safety and building good habits.

What fundamental skill do you prioritise with new riders?

Every horse tells a different story if we’re quiet enough to listen.

When trainer Tori Jeffress took on her Brumby mare Nova for the Australian Brumby Challenge, she wasn’t chasing ribbons. She was rebuilding trust one quiet moment, one breath, one touch at a time.

In this heartfelt episode of Horse Chats, Tori shares how understanding equine communication, spinal alignment, and patience can transform even the most sensitive horses from wild to willing.

“The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every great rider’s transformation begins with one small, intentional movement, one moment of awareness that changes everything.

For Jennifer Kotylo, that acorn was rediscovering her body through Pilates and Balimo work after years of stiffness, injury, and imbalance.
Today, she helps equestrians reconnect with their bodies so they can ride freely, fluidly, and in true harmony with their horses.

🎧 In this episode of Horse Chats, Jennifer shares how mindful movement and body awareness can reignite your riding journey. From finding balance in the saddle to unlocking your horse’s natural expression.

Dr. Kate Fenner explains why so much training goes wrong when we miss this emotional balance — when a horse is either too anxious or too switched off to learn.

💡 Discover the sweet spot where your horse is alert, relaxed, and ready to connect — what Kate calls the “bubble of engagement.” It’s fragile, powerful, and the key to true communication in training.
