Isaac Drandic, Queensland Theatre Company Head of First Nations Theatre, talking about Creative in Cairns. Taking place at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 November, this free two-day event invites audiences to experience the earliest sparks of powerful new First Nations stories through live readings and works-in-progress showings by artists from across Far North Queensland. Itβs a rare chance to witness how theatre is made from the first spark of an idea to the stories that will one day take the stage across Australia. Among the works in development are Burning House by Phoebe Grainer, Forgotten Songlines by Minjil, Biw a Githalay by Uncle Milton Walit, John Harvey and the seven clans of Saibai Island, and Let There Be Light by Isaac Drandic. Cairns will also become home to Queensland Theatreβs permanent satellite hub for First Nations theatre development, the first of its kind for any major state theatre company in Australia. Through this hub, Queensland Theatre is building pathways for new stories to grow from Country and travel to the world. You can find out more via the link below!
