📍 Boera Village | Papua New Guinea
Visit Boera and trek Nemu hill to see WWII relics.

Boera was one of many sites during World War II used by allied forces to protect Port Moresby from attacks by the Japanese Imperial army.

The Boera battery was constructed by the 8th Army Troops Company, Royal Australian Engineers, in July 1943 ; on Nemu hill just outside of the village.

The gun pits were placed to defend the northern and western entrances to Caution Bay and to repel any land attack.

The 155 mm field guns had a range of up to 14 km away and could fire up to 40 rounds. There was also an anti-aircraft gun emplacement at the rear (eastern side) of the battery.

The range-finding station, gun pits, magazines, ammunition cupboards and the rear sections of the cast iron gun carriages although weathered from erosion can still be seen.

Other coastal batteries around Port Moresby, included Paga Point, Gemo Island and Idlers Bay.

Treking conditions are easy to moderate and very secure. Wear proper footwear as small parts of Nemu hill can be steep.

📍Varirata National Park, PNG
January 10, 2021, Sunday morning

Varirata National Park (VNP) is the first national park in Papua New Guinea (PNG). It was declared on the 10th of December 1969 and officially opened on the 18th of October, 1973

The Varirata National Park is a natural rain-forest park, with a sealed drive-through road to its lookout with a couple of walk tracks with directions. The park is home to its natural flora and fauna and has a bird' eye-view lookout point of the city of Port Moresby and its outskirts. The park is a favorite for Bird Watchers.

This travel vlog was filmed last January 10, 2021, Sunday morning. Our second hike with Pinoy Mountaineer in Papua New Guinea (PMPNG).
