On November 11, we paused to honour those who served and those we’ve lost.

Local bush poet Bob Pacey wrote and performed a moving piece that aired throughout the day. We wanted to share Bob’s poem with you again here in case you missed it.

Enjoy.

Getting Help Sooner: A New Era in Healthcare with Gerald Quigley

In this episode of Let’s Talk Health, pharmacist and Master Herbalist Gerald Quigley joins MJB to explore a new initiative making waves in Queensland — the Community Pharmacist Program.

Traditionally, certain health concerns required a doctor’s visit and a prescription. But under this new program, specially trained pharmacists can now assess and treat a growing list of common conditions — including uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), shingles, psoriasis, and more.

This new initiative offers a practical stopgap, allowing trained pharmacists to provide short-term treatment options — including antibiotics — when getting in to see a GP isn’t
immediate.

In this important episode, MJ sits down with Gerald Quigley to uncover surprising — and potentially life-saving — truths about heart health in women.
Gerald shares sobering statistics: heart disease kills more than twice as many Australian women as breast cancer, and 40% of heart attacks in women are fatal. Even more concerning? Many of these attacks occur without the classic warning signs we’ve been taught to expect.
Gerald urges women over 45 — especially those who have had children — to prioritise a heart health check, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart history. Because women often care for everyone else first, they may forget to look after themselves… but their lives may depend on it.
