Whoa, what a seismic shift in energy, personal boundaries and transformation this pivotal time known as menopause is. I'm only just starting out on the journey and have a few more years to go, but already it is the most empowering time in my life. The veil of illusion lifts, and what no longer serves is removed; what is detrimental is swiftly cut off; and what is empowering is embraced like a nourishing, hearty broth.

This spread was inspired by an amazing video titled "Menopause: the truth they don't want you to know" by Katherine Betteridge. I will link in the comments for those interested (HIGHLY recommend it), as well as my own reading with this spread.

✨ What can you expect when booking a reading with me?

My reading style is very down to earth and pragmatic. This means I work to provide realistic guidance as shown by the cards or your astrological transits. In a world where illusion, fantasy and escapism are not only marketed but actively encouraged, my reading style will either be a breath of fresh air, or an irritating clash with reality (let that be your warning).

The above aside, I hold the greatest respect, and hold space accordingly, for those who experience the dark night of the soul, genuine hardship, and are honest about their situation, and anyone who walks a path of betterment as a human being.

All of this comes from hard earned life experience, including said dark night of the soul, drug addiction, psychosis, ancestral karmic debts (don't we all), soul crushing corporate work and the ultimate trial of finding and manifesting a meaningful vocation, betrayals, childhood trauma, and the list goes on. This is by far the most formidable tool in my arsenal, alongside my intuition and connection with spirit.

I am not all light and love, but neither am I someone who will offer performative empathy and cliché feel good answers.

‼️ Spot the fake

On the left: counterfeit deck, sold at ridiculously cheap prices, cardstock is thin and awful, and notice the creator's name is missing from the cover.

On the right: the official mass market version (there is also an indie version), notice larger cards, better cardstock (and much thicker/bigger box) with creator's name on the cover.

I once stopped by a crystal vendor's stall, someone who proclaimed her integrity in sourcing crystals, and saw all the decks she had for sale were counterfeit. When asked about this, she admitted she knew they were not genuine, but that she sold them at markets because they were "smaller and portable". Needless to say, I didn't buy a single crystal from her, though she's certainly not the only unscrupulous charlatan peddling her wares under the "light and love" new age persona - so welcoming, so smiling, so comforting.

That artists receive no royalties from such sales doesn't seem to concern those who buy them, nor is it a concern that they support unethical overseas printers.

How to avoid purchasing fake decks:
✔️ avoid sites like alibaba, temu, etc
✔️ is the deck priced ridiculously cheap, especially compared to what the creator or publishing house is selling it for? Big hint there.
✔️ small card size is an instant giveaway (think playing card size)
✔️ counterfeit decks usually have a QR code on the back of the box, as opposed to a little booklet included inside the box. There are exceptions to this, such as Dame Darcy's decks and a couple of others.

I bought the fake deck second hand to use in my tarot workshops as an example of what to look for - it really makes people aware of the differences when they can see it next to the genuine deck.

A long, long time ago, I was asked by my therapist who are my role models?

And I struggled to answer. Not because I could not think of any female role models - I knew of Marie Curie, I knew of Ursula Le Guin, I knew of Mary Shelley, I knew of Nina Simone, I knew of Eleanor Roosvelt and Frieda Kahlo and oh so many others I admired.

And yet - in my personal life?! Zero. Not the manager at work, ambitious and alpha to boot, calculating and strategizing, so very clever. Not anyone in my immediate family lineage, with its betrayals, stifled dreams, bottled rage and unfulfilled lives. Not the young women around me, eagerly consuming cleverly marketed make up and personalities devoid of substance.

It was a painful realisation. But once a truth was shone on that, as the saying goes, did it set me free indeed. And they started appearing, slowly, but surely, starting with my tarot and astrology teacher, whose eyes spoke of someone who was truly alive and living in line with her calling; or moving in with someone who "lived off the smell of an oily rag" (as she put it!) and yet her home oozed calm and sanctuary, filled with house plants, found furniture and a garden filled with the most amazing poppies and hollyhocks - there was magic in that shabby place, I tell ya.

They, and many others since, changed the course of my life profoundly, and gave me the strength and confidence to manifest things I never once dreamed possible.

So this week's card, the stunning Queen of Pentacles from the Light Seer's Tarot, is a welcoming reminder of the role model I welcomed in my own life, and cultivated since. Chris-Anne puts it best:

"She relaxes down, lifts up her head, and takes a deep breath. This self-made Queen spends a few morning moments here every day, giving thanks to the life she has cultivated.

A natural healer, she has always connected to earth energy, drawing peace from the trees, the soils, the mosses... and sensing the lush green energy that pulses all around her. 🌕 Total Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, exact here in Queensland early tomorrow morning (3:38am)

The effects of an eclipse can last for weeks afterwards (even up to 3 months or so), and can bring significant and sudden changes in the area of life governed by the sign (first Pisces, and second its opposite sign, Virgo).

✨ On a personal level, this eclipse really highlights the need for rest and self-care, including the need for more sleep. Spiritual practices, meditation, journaling and a softer approach to life is called for. Find ways to boost your immune system and avoid draining activities.

🕯️ This eclipse has a tendency to stimulate the subconscious mind. Dreams, intuition and psychic occurrences are heightened. Work to being in positive energy, and focus on what is good, and this is especially important for anyone on medication for depression. The impact of drugs and alcohol is especially heightened during Pisces eclipses.

🌍 On a global/collective scale: Pisces dissolves or breaks down barriers, it is a fluid sign of dissolution. Pisces is the sign of the fish, so Pisces eclipses are associated with floods and ocean-related events. Losses related to data storage, spike in unemployment rates and issues around public health are susceptible to its effects (again, looking at up to 3 months for impacts to manifest).

I wish everyone a restful, and nurturing Full Moon in Pisces, and hope we all find the time for self-care and deep, restoring sleep.
