PRONOIZ presents a special live performance and interview with Yirrmal, captured at the Voices of Kin Festival at Elixir Music House, Gimuy/Cairns.
Yirrmal is a powerful Yolลu singer-songwriter and storyteller from the Rirratjingu clan of Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land. His music brings together contemporary songwriting with the stories, culture and traditions of his homeland, delivered through an unmistakable voice and commanding live presence.
Coming from a remarkable musical lineage, Yirrmal is the son of Witiyana Marika, co-founder of Yothu Yindi, and has carried those musical and cultural foundations forward into his own generation.
His career has seen him collaborate with and learn from some of Australia's most respected artists, including Archie Roach, Shane Howard and Andrew Farriss, while his collaboration with Baker Boy on โMarryunaโ reached #17 in triple j's Hottest 100 of 2017.
This performance was captured during Voices of Kin, a First Nations-led celebration bringing together musicians, artists, dancers, filmmakers, storytellers and creatives in Gimuy/Cairns.
