"The Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn joins the universal condemnation of the cowardly attack on innocent people at Bondi Beach last Sunday evening.

It was clearly an anti-Semitic terrorist act. We stand close to all our Jewish brothers and sisters as they grieve the loss of life and injury to so many families and loved ones."

For many, Christmas is a season of joy, marked by family, laughter, and celebration. But for others, it’s a time that magnifies grief, loneliness, or distress.

Trauma psychologist Angela McCabe has encouraged parishes to consider offering a Blue Christmas Mass – a quiet, reflective service for those who find the festive season difficult.

"The violence and horror which descended upon Bondi on Sunday evening have shaken Australians to the core.

The loss of innocent lives is a tragedy beyond measure. The families and loved ones of those who have died have had their world shattered.

We join with all those who condemn such terrible violence and plead with all Australians to reject any impulse towards hatred and violence and instead to recommit ourselves to being peacemakers in our families, amongst our friends and in our wider society."

🎻Violinist honoured for healing through music
Bianca, who is also Wellbeing Coordinator at Merici College, said the award highlights a sector currently facing funding pressures and uncertainty.
“To be acknowledged by the Governor-General is incredibly touching,” Bianca said. “It feels less like an individual honour and more like an affirmation of the value of the classical music ecosystem here in Australia, especially in the nation’s capital.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Communications Minister Anika Wells visited St John Paul II College on Thursday morning, meeting students and teachers the day after Australia’s new national ban on social media for under-16s came into effect.

Sitting in the school library with a small group of Year 8 and 9 students, the Prime Minister heard firsthand how the world-leading laws were already being implemented in classrooms, homes, and friendship groups.

“I thought it would liven me up a bit, and it has really done that. I love everybody getting together and singing the songs. My favourite is The Little Drummer Boy, and Jingle Bells – the Batman smells version. We used to sing that in primary school, and it was so rude we laughed and laughed.”

Pamela is part of the Calvary Haydon Aged Care choir, who performed Australian classics and joyful Christmas songs at Calvary Bruce Private Hospital yesterday.

“Royal Far West means a great deal to all of us. There’s no organisation like it,” Governor-General Sam Mostyn said this week, at an event marking the final chapter of the charity's 100th anniversary celebrations this year.

“What you do for country kids all over this country, and will continue to do, is profoundly important.”

Students from St Bede's Primary School, Braidwood, St Gregory's Primary School Queanbeyan, St Patrick's Parish School Cooma and St. Mary's Primary School Crookwell enjoyed activities on the lawn, including making glitter mind bottles and navigating an obstacle course.

Students at St Joseph's Primary School, Bombala have collected hundreds of food items for the Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn Christmas Appeal. They will all go directly to supporting individuals and families doing it tough in Bombala.

"Your kindness and willingness to give truly embodies the spirit of Christmas. Together, we’re helping make the season a little brighter for those who need it most. Thank you, St Joey’s — we’re proud to be part of such a caring community."

Great work, St Joey's! 🙏

Professional violinist and Merici College Wellbeing Coordinator Bianca Porcheddu has been honoured with a Community Service Recognition Award from the Governor-General.

“It feels less like an individual honour and more like an affirmation of the value of the classical music ecosystem here in Australia, especially in the nation’s capital,” she said.

“I think this recognition sends a vital message to the community. Arts, culture and history play a critical role in preserving our humanity.”
