Federal Education Minister Jason Clare visited St Mary MacKillop College Canberra on Monday, getting a firsthand look at how the Catalyst approach is transforming teaching and learning across Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn.
During his tour, he met students and staff, observed lessons in Mathematics and Religious Education, and visited the Trade Training Centre. Mr Clare said he was inspired by the passion of teachers and the confidence of students.
“I've heard about the great things Catholic Education are doing here, but it's another thing to see it face to face. It's a great opportunity to see leadership in action, but also to see the next generation of Australians coming to life. This school truly offers one-on-one support from passionate teachers. They care about the students and are preparing them for the next steps, whether it’s TAFE, university, or the workforce.”
Principal Michael Lee said the visit was a welcome opportunity to showcase the College’s learning culture and the impact of the Catalyst framework.
“As principal and leader of learning here, I'm really encouraged and reassured that we have a Minister for Education who doesn't just live in the abstract, but is keen to come into schools and visit classrooms and to talk to teachers and students. He engaged really well with our kids.”
