Some of the best waters edge free camping, and a bit of 4x4ing on the western side of Blowering Dam near Tumut, NSW. Put this spot on your list. Check out the YouTube video tomorrow.

We camped at an old ruins on the first night. Next day we had a few dramas on the tracks before pulling up to camp mid afternoon. We had a couple of unwanted visitors and a big cook up.

Here is the full clip from our recent YouTube video showing the recovery we completed during our snow drive.

We came across a 300 series Landcruiser trying to drag a Subaru Forester out of the ditch it had slipped into on an uphill section of the track. Both cars had highway tyres, and highway tyre pressures. Traction for the 300 got worse as the icy ground was exposed.

Shane moved his 79 into position after they asked for help, and he led the recovery. The plan was to attach the rear of the 79 to a tree to stop it sliding forward, then winch each vehicle forward and sideways onto a section of track that was more level and provided more grip. The family was able to reverse each vehicle out to a location where they could turn around. It worked out nicely.

Pedal to the metal on some sections of this climb. Mud tyres for the win! It was pretty slippery, but there was enough grip to keep moving forward.
