On this World Mental Health Day, we want to give little reminder:
Loneliness is an emotion. It’s a sign that our bodies give us that we need to slow down and prioritise our social health.
Loneliness is not a mental health issue.
Studies show that when left unacknowledged and untended, loneliness can often develop into adverse mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. These can absolutely require interventions from a mental health professional.
But loneliness is not a mental health issue.
We fear that pathologising loneliness inadvertently feeds the stigma of loneliness.
At Humans: Connecting, we’re thrilled to play our part – along with many other people and organisations around the world – to help raise awareness of loneliness and in empowering people to prioritise their social health.
But loneliness is not a mental health issue.
Perhaps after we’ve highlighted the importance of World Mental Health Day, it’s time to advocate for a World Social Health Day?
We’re meant to connect: www.humansconnecting.org
