This is a constructive step by ACT Government that would encourage, not just a new (optional) language learning but appreciation of culture beyond a few ticket food and music items.
The side effects would not just stop at sharing of stories connected to the language and culture but also removing a stigma attached to speaking native language that most migrant kids subconsciously feel. A step in a right direction, I say.

Have Your Say: Learning Punjabi and Hindi languages at school.
We are seeking feedback to identify student interest in learning Punjabi and Hindi at ACT public schools. Your feedback will be used to consider the introduction of Punjabi and Hindi language teaching for ACT public school students, where this would benefit the local community.
The Indian diaspora is the ACTβs largest multicultural community, making up around 17,000 people, with almost 10,000 people speaking Punjabi or Hindi at home. Over 600 ACT public school students identify Punjabi as their derived main language, and over 800 ACT public school students identify Hindi as their derived main language.
