What are you choosing to focus on?
Sometimes it takes loss, an unexpected diagnosis or a crisis to remind you what’s important. Those moments can be life altering.
We will all experience this in our lives but how you choose to focus and move forward is up to you.
A client asked me recently “how are you such a positive person”?
My answer was because I choose to be.
Losing my brother very suddenly makes you look at life differently. You can always find something good.
It’s what they leave behind that drives you. For me he’s that reminder to forgive, to love, to have fun, to not take life too seriously. I work on this everyday because I don’t always get it right.
That’s what I think about when I find myself in overwhelm or fear or worry.
I’ve learned how to hold more compassion and understanding not only for others but most importantly for myself.
When you don’t do that for yourself you become a doormat, you drop your boundaries, you’re hard on yourself, you have regrets, you focus on what’s wrong instead of what’s right, and you stay small.
Special days or holidays are a timely reminder, but if you want to live this way everyday you have to do the work on yourself. It all starts inside of you. That is what you project onto your experience of life.
