Bossy Magazine has an exciting paid opportunity for all artists of the ANU! We are beginning our search for an incredible design to grace the cover of our upcoming print edition, Ouroboros.

Edition eleven, Ouroboros, is an exploration of our consumption as well as the many cycles that we experience in our lives. It is a Greek word that means 'tail-devourer', and it refers to an ancient symbol of a snake or dragon eating its own tail. This theme hopes to encourage the community to reflect upon their own consumption as well as the consumption practices within our society. Our theme also hopes to delve into the never-ending cycles that are present in everyone's lives.

As the ANU Women's Department's intersectional feminist magazine, Bossy is committed to uplifting marginalised voices. As such, we strongly encourage LGBTQI+ and BIPOC artists to apply for this opportunity.

This will be a paid position and is an exciting opportunity to see your design printed and in the hands of hundreds of people across Canberra! If you are interested, please follow the link below for more information and to apply. The deadline for applications is FRIDAY 15th AUGUST (Friday Week 4).

Bossy Magazine has an exciting paid opportunity for artists of the ANU! As the semester starts up again, we are beginning our search for an incredible design to grace the cover of our upcoming print edition, Metamorphosis.

Edition ten, Metamorphosis, is about transforming or changing shape. It describes how a caterpillar can change and adapt to eventually form a butterfly - a suitable metaphor to indicate the transformation we make every day as people. This theme will encourage the community to delve deeper into self-discovery and examine how we each have changed and evolved as people, the motivations for this, and what it says about us on the journey we take through our lives. As it is our tenth edition, we also want to explore how Bossy has helped people in our ANU community transform over time and become the successful organisation we are today.

Change and adaptation have allowed our society today to progress. However, we can become stagnant in our fight for justice, acceptance and diversity when looking at what has been done rather than what still needs to be done. As such, we strongly encourage LGBTQI+ and BIPOC artists to apply for this opportunity.

This is a paid gig and will be an exciting opportunity to see your printed design in hundreds of hands across Canberra! If you are interested, please follow the link below for more information and to apply. The deadline for applications is FRIDAY 16TH AUGUST.

Exciting news! This year, we are working with the Gender Institute to produce our print magazine. Because of this, we are reinstating our Bite-Sized Thesis program, which was included in our 2017 edition! This involves working with ANU students to publish a bite-sized version (around 3000 words) of their thesis work. If you would be interested in publishing your scholarly work and having it featured in our Metamorphosis edition, please email us via mailto:[email protected] or PM/DM us 📕📗📘📙📒📚 [Book emojis]

About us

Bossy is a medium for change, a platform for marginalised voices, a creative space, and full of opportunities and collaboration.

We publish content about everything — you would be amazed at the breadth of topics our content explores — in all the styles of writing you could imagine: reviews, poetry, long-form fiction, interviews, memoirs, satire, open letters, opinion pieces, visuals, and the list goes on.

We accept submissions from women-identifying, femme-aligned, non-binary and genderqueer ANU students, staff members and alumna. Though we only accept submissions from a select contributor base, we produce content for everyone.

When sourcing content, however, we always have the following aims in sight.
