Five days post abdominal surgery. 💙💚

Something I've been really grateful for this week is all the cooperative care work Yoshi and I have done together.

There have been lots of checks over the last few days. Lifting her shirt, checking her dressing and surgical area, feeling for changes and generally making sure everything is healing as it should.

And Yoshi? She just lies there and lets me do what I need to do. 😂

Cooperative care can seem like something you practise for vet visits, grooming or everyday handling. But weeks like this remind me how valuable it really is.

When your dog is unwell, sore or recovering from surgery, being able to care for them without adding unnecessary stress makes such a difference.

All those little bits of training weren't really for the easy days.

They were for days like these. 💙💚

She used to be afraid of instruments and the strange sounds they made. 🎹🐾

Now she chooses to sit right beside me while I play. Sometimes she listens, sometimes she lies down, and sometimes the music sends her straight to sleep. 🥹

It’s such a small thing, but I love seeing how much her confidence has grown. Something that once worried her has become something she can simply relax around. 💛

We were supposed to be camping this weekend. 🏕️

Obviously that wasn’t happening after Yoshi’s surgery… so we brought camping home instead. 😂

Mattress on the lounge room floor, blankets everywhere, portable power station plugged in, hot water bottle ready, and me sleeping beside my best friend while she recovers.

She’s been moving between her favourite spots, coming over when she wants some company, then wandering off again when she’s had enough of me. 😂

Not quite the camping weekend we planned, but honestly, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Pretend camping with my best friend it is. ❤️🐾

Woke up for some food and a toilet walk, waited for the human to clean all my bedding, change of shirt, then straight back to resting. 💚💙

My best friend is home. 💚💙

We were meant to be going camping this weekend. Instead, it’s been a huge week of ultrasounds, tests, hospital visits and surgery yesterday for gastrointestinal biopsies. Almost $10,000 later, Yoshi finally came home tonight.

Camping can wait.

We got you home, got you settled and made you comfortable. Tonight there’s nothing expected of you. No training, no working, no adventures. Just rest and recovery.

So we pulled out the mattress and put it beside your crate. You can sleep, and we’ll just be here. Close enough if you need anything, but otherwise simply keeping you company through the night.

The house was definitely cleaner without you 😂, but it was also incredibly empty. There’s a Yoshi-shaped hole when you’re not here. Life just doesn’t feel quite the same without my best friend beside me.

So this weekend’s adventure looks a little different.

No tent. No camping. Just a mattress on the floor, you tucked safely into your crate, and us right here beside you.

And there’s nowhere else I’d rather be tonight. 💚💙🐾

My best friend, who also happens to work with me. 💚🐾

Yoshi came along to community training and worked beside me while I coached the other teams. Sometimes her job is doing tasks for me, and sometimes it’s simply settling nearby while I work.

Pretty lucky to have my best mate as my workmate too. 🥰
