Here's me having a rant about the death of the English language as we know it, and how there's nothing 'yay' about any day of the week - except maybe Friday.

(even then the 'Friyay' thing just does my head in).

I’m not sure if it is only me who is subjected to these inane emails that begin with ‘Happy Friyay’ or if it is only me who gets so annoyed by them. But it has [...]

FROM DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT AND MAIN ROADS:

TRAFFIC ALERT - BEAUDESERT-NERANG ROAD (CHRISTIE STREET), CANUNGRA
Motorists are advised that minor safety improvement works at the Canungra State School crossing, on Beaudesert-Nerang Road (Christie Street) in Canungra will be active on Monday 10 November 2025 and continue for two nights.

Night works hours are Monday to Wednesday 6pm to 5am.

Works include installation of concrete traffic islands at the existing raised pedestrian crossing (wombat crossing), line marking and new signage. These works are not related to the recent community consultation that was carried out for a proposed pedestrian crossing further east on Christie Street/Kidston Street.

Changed traffic conditions include lane closures, stop/slow traffic holds and reduced speed limits. Impacts will be minimised where possible. Please follow all directions from traffic control and drive carefully. Motorists may experience traffic delays throughout these works; allow for extra travel time.
Weather, site, and contractor conditions can impact works, delaying start and finishing times.

For information on the latest traffic conditions, please contact the Statewide Traffic Management Centre on 13 19 40, or visit www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au

Important Event Update: The Long Sunset has been cancelled

The Long Sunset, scheduled to take place from 31 October to 2 November at the Boonah Showgrounds, has been cancelled.

Following the recent heavy rain and damaging weather across the Scenic Rim region, the team from QMF has been closely monitoring onsite conditions and assessing safety for staff and patrons. After a full site inspection this morning, assessors have determined the grounds and conditions are unsafe for staff, vendors, and event guests. As a result, a decision has been made to cancel The Long Sunset.

This current state of the event site, coupled with the official forecasts for dangerous and destructive weather conditions expected to continue on Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November, means this decision has been made in constant consultation with the local government authority, Scenic Rim Regional Council.

A QMF spokesperson said: “While we’re deeply disappointed to cancel The Long Sunset, the safety of our audiences, artists, crew, and staff is our top priority. We thank everyone for their understanding and support.”

All ticket holders have been contacted directly via email and SMS and will receive a refund.
