🌟 Are you ready to turn your idea into a business book? 🌟

This week, I’ve been reflecting on the habits we build and how they impact our goals—whether it’s our health, our business, or the legacy we want to leave. After reading 'Secrets of Women's Healthy Aging' and listening to 'Atomic Habits', I realised that small, daily habits are key to success.

Writing a book is no different. If you’ve been putting off writing your non-fiction business book, now’s the time to start building those habits. Find a buddy, set goals, and stay accountable. Trust me, it makes a world of difference!

I love working with women in business to help them go from an idea to a published book, providing guidance and accountability at every step.

If you're a female entrepreneur and ready to start your book, join me and Jules Brooke from She's The Boss for our upcoming workshop, designed to help you flip the fear, identify the three w's you need to write your business book and share your expertise with the world. 🌎

If you live in Brisbane and are a Woman in Business, I urge you not to miss this opportunity.

I was incredibly lucky to win one of the grants last year. The money was great, but the connections and ongoing support have been even better.

If writing a business book is on your bucket list for 2025, please reach out, and we can have a chat about supplying you with a quote.

The Brisbane Business Hub is an amazing space with an awesome team, and it is well worth the time it takes to complete the application.

Presenting Partner We are excited to announce Commonwealth Bank Australia as the presenting partner for the 2025 Women in Business Grant and program.

🐾 Wilson’s excited barking announced another book delivery, thank goodness the postie is used to dogs going crazy!

Today, we received two fantastic books from Pan Macmillan Australia: "Something Bad is Going to Happen" by Jessie Stephens and "Girl Falling" by Hayley Scrivenor.

Working with the Pan Mac team on these books was a joy, and I can't wait to dive into my printed copies. Jessie and Hayley are talented Australian writers, and their stories are captivating. 📚✨

Have you read any of their books?

Technology is changing the world. We all know this, but it's easy to 'wait and see' what long-term implications are going to be.

Waiting for governments and industry bodies to take the lead will be too late.

Techno argues that we are all responsible for contributing to how technology is used, to ensure that as a society we will benefit from.

As always we love working with the team at UQP on another thought provoking book.

With the start of the new financial year, I've been taking time out of the office to reflect on the past year and what lies ahead.

For some unknown reason, Paul Kelly's song "From Little Things, Big Things Grow" has been playing on repeat in the back of my mind, making me think about where each small step can lead us.

Like the seeds I plant in my garden or the succulents that propagate from a tiny leaf, our ideas and efforts have the potential to flourish and grow into something extraordinary. We just need to remember to water them and feed them occasionally!

One thing that I know for certain is that being an entrepreneur can be exhausting and consume more of my time than I ever dreamed. Ideas that pop into my head and get scribbled on a piece of paper are often forgotten and left to wither and die!

This year I'm determined to plant those seeds, start the project and finish the projects I've been putting off, and take that first step toward your goal.

This week, I've written more about planting the seed. You can read my latest blog post here: https://dettoripublishing.com.au/from-little-things-big-things-grow-the-journey-of-a-writer/

Whether it's to publish the book you have dreamed of writing or create something new, ask yourself, why wait?

What seeds of an idea are you planting?

As we walked the dogs this morning, I was reminded of how quickly the years have disappeared. We passed a young family heading off to work and daycare while another was packing up the caravan with the children and dog in tow, ready for an adventure. It was with a twinge of sadness that I realised it felt like only yesterday that this was my life.

Now, my daughters live interstate, and my son is at university. Where did those years go?

There have been many things I have put on the bucket list, or as Kate Christie calls it, a 'Life List,' that I haven't done. In fact, if you asked me what they were, I couldn't tell you. This morning, I was reminded that there might never be the perfect time, and I need to embrace the now. I need to put pen to paper, be creative, and do what I tell others to do.

We all have many things we want to do but often put off until we have more time or when the time is right. But when is the time right? Should we wait if we want to be creative, write a story, paint, or learn a new skill? Waiting can mean we leave it too late.

Do you ever wake up feeling like today is the day to embrace your creativity? 🌟

The photo of Brigid and me in 1995 feels like yesterday.

As we kick off a new week, let’s chat about something crucial yet often daunting: setting goals for writing that book you've been dreaming about.

Yes, it might seem like you’re staring at a blank page, thinking, 'How on earth am I supposed to turn that into a book?' But remember, every author starts with the same blank page and setting goals is a great way to help you achieve your dreams.

📝 Why Goals Are Your Best Friends 📝

Think of goals as your personal roadmap. Without them, it's way too easy to veer off the path. I get it, I am constantly veering off in another direction. But goals help get you from “Maybe one day” to “I did it!”

🌟 How to Set Goals That Get You Moving 🌟

Be Specific & Start Small: Change 'I want to write a book' to 'I will write 500 words on my key idea today.' Celebrate every little victory!

Keep It Real: We’ve all got lives, families, jobs. Find your writing moments in the chaos. Even a quiet half-hour in the morning can become your golden time.

Visualise Success: Imagine what holding your published book will feel like. Use that vision to propel you forward.

Find Your Cheerleaders: Tell someone about your goals. Better yet, share them here! A community of support makes all the difference.

You've got this. Writing your book is just another challenge waiting to be met head-on. And remember, you’re not alone, I'm here with you, ready to turn that overwhelming feeling into triumph.

So, let’s hear it. Pop a goal you’re setting for yourself this week in the comments. 💕📚✨

It’s National Reconciliation Week this week (May 27–June 3), and this year’s theme ‘Be Brave. Make Change.’ is a challenge to all Australians.

We believe very much in the power of stories, story-telling, and truth-telling, and we’re proud to work with Magabala Books, Australia’s leading Indigenous publishing house. Aboriginal owned and led, Magabala Books nurtures and celebrates the talent and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, publishing beautiful and powerful books across a wide range of genres.

National Reconciliation Week is a great time to reflect on how we – individually and collectively – contribute to reconciliation, and what more we can do to bring about a just, equitable, and reconciled Australia. Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
