Okay, we admit this photo might look like the poster for an upcoming action movie, but the hard work our Castlemaine SES Unit volunteers put in last night was incredibly real! (Shout-out to Craig for the awesome AI-generated depiction of the scene!) 🎬🌲

At 6:30 pm yesterday, the pagers went off for a significant job: a massive gum tree had come down, completely blocking both lanes of the Maldon-Bridgewater Road at Bradford Road in Baringhup.

Our crews responded immediately, facing a mountain of timber blocking a major artery. They wasted no time, establishing traffic control and cutting a path to open one lane just 20 minutes after arrival. For the next three hours, chainsaws ran hot as the team worked tirelessly to section the remaining huge trunk. By 9:30 pm, the job was done, and the road was fully reopened.

A massive shout-out to the crews on the ground last night. It was a tough, heavy job tackled with absolute professionalism.

⚠️ Safety Reminder: Please stay alert on the roads, especially after dark or during wild weather. Conditions can change in an instant.

📞 For flood and storm emergencies (like trees down), call the SES on 132 500. 📞 In a life-threatening emergency, always call 000.

🔥Breaking news

Castlemaine police apprehended a scammer before he allegedly tried to scam an elderly woman out of $10,000 in Castlemaine on Sunday morning.
It is alleged the man was attending the woman’s home in Lawrence Park Drive to collect the cash on 16 November.
The man allegedly told the woman he was collecting tax money in relation to cryptocurrency.
Unbeknownst to him, a family member identified that the woman in her 80’s was being scammed and told local police that he was coming to retrieve the money.
Police attended the property and caught the man in the act before taking him into custody.
It was revealed that the man had already allegedly scammed the woman out of $40,000.
The 52-year-old Skye man will be charged on summons and the investigation remains ongoing.
Sergeant Debra Graham from Castlemaine Police Station said they want to remind residents that scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated and it’s more important for the community to stay alert.
“Being aware of scams is essential in protecting your personal and financial information,” she said
Scammers often use emails, text messages and phone calls that appear legitimate, so it’s important to take a moment to verify anything that seems unusual. Never provide personal details unless you are sure the request is genuine and avoid clicking on unknown links.
“To protect yourself always take a moment to double check unexpected messages especially those that create urgency, ask for payment or request personal information. Legitimate organisations will never ask for sensitive details through unsecured channels.”

If you are unsure seek advice from your family, friends or Police. If something feels ‘off’ trust your instincts. Staying informed and cautions helps keep our community safe and more confident online”.
