Bling feels really good.

I know everyone will say, “I don’t do it for the awards,” which is admirable and largely true for most people. But being recognized for good work fills my cup. To be told that your creativity is valuable validates the vision I have for each project. To see the impact the work is having on the greater community, that’s an incredible feeling.

It’s also nice when that recognition manifests into some cold-hard metal.

We submitted 2 projects for 3 categories and came home with silver  Awards for each category we entered (Sustainability, Health and Safety, and the People’s Telly). That’s huge. And I’m so glad I get to share this win with everyone who worked on these projects.

Today is a good day.

Last year at The Plant during Death Faire 2023, we embarked on an experiment called Grief Chronicles. It was an experience where brave individuals opened up to the journey of grief, death, and life's turbulent nature in front of the camera.

Best advice for posing for the camera.

Just be yourself.

Whether it’s a head tilt, toothy smile or just a serene expression, focus on being natural and being you.

Avoid trying to look perfect - you are perfect just the way you are.

Get close.

I use close-ups and extreme close-ups a lot in my work. It's something that has come to define my style of shooting. I love shallow focus, great bokeh, and intimate situations.

Many amateur photographers I find are resistant to getting too close. I've definitely felt that sense of anxiety when shooting that I'm invading someone's personal space.

But if you can develop trust with your subject or find a way to capture a candid moment in close up we can almost touch their emotions and trace feelings across their expression.

So don't be afraid to get close.

Running has always been an escape for me.

It's a great way to flesh out my thoughts or quiet my brain. I used to run 20 to 40 miles weekly depending on my training schedule.

Nowadays running comes once or twice a week. Turns out that running a business and having a toddler really takes a good amount of time.

But I still love it and get out when I can.

I love experimenting.

Sometimes when I get overwhelmed with client work and I feel drained and unmotivated I take some time to play in the studio. So I rope a few people around the office to be guinea pigs for new lighting and background setups.

So people like Spencer allow me to experiment and collaborate.
