Charters Towers residents and visitors please be advised ๐Ÿšจ

First responders arrived on the scene at 2:40 am today in response to a fire at St Paulโ€™s Thrift Shop.

The direct area has experienced power outages.

The direct area in Gill Street was subsequently blocked off.

Although there was structural damage, first responders were able to prevent further complications.

NEW CEO APPOINTED FOR CHARTERS TOWERS REGIONAL COUNCIL

Charters Towers Regional Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Michelle Clarke as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The appointment of Mrs Clarke was resolved by Council at a Special Meeting on Wednesday, 24 June 2026 following a thorough and competitive recruitment process.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will carry out pavement rehabilitation and minor scour repairs across several stateโ€‘controlled roads in the Charters Towers region from ๐Ÿ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฆ๐ข๐โ€‘๐ƒ๐ž๐œ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” (๐Œ๐จ๐งโ€“๐…๐ซ๐ข, ๐Ÿ”๐š๐ฆโ€“๐Ÿ”๐ฉ๐ฆ)

๐Ÿ›ฃ Roads affected:
- Flinders Highway (Charters Towers โ€“ Hughenden)
- Flinders Highway (Townsville โ€“ Charters Towers)
- Hervey Range Road (Townsville โ€“ Battery Creek)
- Burdekin Falls Dam Road Gregory Development Road (Charters Towers โ€“ The Lynd)
- Gregory Development Road (Belyando Crossing โ€“ Charters Towers)

Expect lane closures, stop/slow traffic, temporary lights, reduced speeds and short delays (5 mins, up to 15 mins for urgent works). Please drive carefully and follow traffic controllers.
