Sydney WorkAbility Expo 2025 is almost here — and you’re invited! ✨

Every day, talented jobseekers with disability are overlooked — not because they lack skills, but because outdated perceptions still linger. As Reggie Sorensen puts it:

“No one wants to hire someone who is vision impaired — I’m just like everybody else.”

That’s exactly why WorkAbility exists — to challenge those mindsets and open doors.

🗓️ Join us on Friday 8 August at Sydney Olympic Park for a full-day event that brings inclusive employers and jobseekers of all abilities together.

In the Employer Lounge, you’ll have the chance to meet face-to-face with organisations that are actively hiring and leading the way in inclusive employment — including Amazon, PwC, McDonald’s, Medibank, Nestlé, Transport for NSW, Inner West Council, Capgemini, Randstad, Busways, Cater Care, Hotel Etico, NDIA, and Nutricia Australia.

Whether you're:
💡Looking for your next opportunity,
💡Supporting someone into work,
💡Or building a more inclusive team..

WorkAbility is for you.

A quick reflection this NAIDOC Week 2025, especially on this year’s theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.”

It’s a powerful call to honour the enduring leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and to build a future rooted in respect, connection, and self-determination.

That spirit was clear at last week’s Social Impact Summit, where we heard about Learning the Macleay, a community-led collective within the national Stronger Places, Stronger People initiative. Their mission: to create better futures for children and families through local, evidence-based solutions.

What resonated most was how deeply their work reflects this year’s theme. Their focus on Racism, Relationships, and Right Timing shows a grounded, thoughtful approach to change.

It was also embodied in our opening ceremony, led by the Gujaga Foundation, with a Welcome to Country from Aunty Noeleen Timbery and a powerful performance by the Gamay Dancers. A moving start that reminded us of the strength and beauty of living culture.

Thanks to Jo-Anne Kelly, Taylor Kelly-Scholes, Lisa Daley, Robert Silva for joining us and sharing your story. It’s inspiring, practical, and community-driven – an example of strength, vision, and legacy in action, and a hopeful sign for the next generation.

That’s a wrap on — two days of bold thinking, honest conversations and deep collaboration.

From courageous personal stories to practical tools for change, this year’s Summit brought together purpose-driven leaders from across sectors to explore how we can lead with impact in complex times.

We reflected on what it means to act with courage - to challenge systems, elevate community voices, and drive collective transformation. Whether in workshops, masterclasses or hallway conversations, the energy was one of generosity, honesty and shared ambition.

A heartfelt thank you to our speakers, facilitators and everyone who contributed to making this such a powerful gathering.

We’d especially like to thank Jamila Rizvi for guiding us through the Summit with warmth, humour and insight — and to Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert for opening the Summit with her powerful story of strength and resilience, reminding us of what courage looks like in its rawest form.

And a huge thank you to our sponsors and partners, your support makes this important gathering possible.

As we close , we’re walking away with new tools, renewed connections and the reminder that the path to lasting change starts with purpose and the courage to act on it.

The very first Darwin WorkAbility Expo was a celebration of community, inclusion, and possibility.

From passionate jobseekers to supportive service providers, educators, and employers — the day brought together incredible people all working toward one goal: a stronger, more inclusive disability workforce.

It wasn’t just about jobs. It was about representation, confidence, and connection with people with disability leading the way, sharing their stories, and shaping their futures.

We were honoured to have the NT Minister for Disabilities, Hon. Jinson Anto Charls, attend the event and show his support for this important initiative.

Thank you to everyone who made this first-ever Darwin Expo such a powerful success. Kathryn Carey was interviewed by ABC Radio Darwin – listen to her insights on the Darwin WorkAbility Expo and the importance of creating spaces where people with disability can be seen, heard, and hired: https://lnkd.in/gjHTc2N2

There are more events on the horizon, so send us a message if you'd like to learn more about WorkAbility!
