Game, Set, Mouse 🎾🐭*

We love a good upcycling story & here’s a great one. Over 50,000 tennis balls are used at the Wimbledon tournament & some of them are repurposed to provide houses for Britain’s smallest mammal, the harvest mouse. Having numerous predators, tall grass offers some protection but a tennis ball attached to a pole offers more. Up to 10 young harvest mice can live in a single tennis ball 🥰

* had to pinch that title It was too good.

Thoreau advocated for simple living & embracing the outside world 🌱

It’s NAIDOC WEEK & we are loving this year’s winning poster ‘Ancestral Lines’ by Jeremy Morgan Worrall.

“Ancestral Lines is a visual representation of the lines and ties that follow a generation and the songs that come with it.

When I think of the next generation I think towards my Ancestor Lucy Wright, Enoch Wright, Nonie Wright, all the way from my Nanna Audrie to my Mother Vanessa.

When I look back at my mob it helps me see towards the future, it gives me hope and strength knowing what my mob have survived through and accomplished amid adversity.

Each person in the painting depicts a series of lines akin to songlines, that represent what they know, who they were and what they have passed on, the first being that of lore (interpretive), hunting, protecting, and tracking, the second of care, weaving, fishing, and love.

The third is when we see the two combine into one, and the last two take unfinished elements of them all, to show the passing down of knowledge and care.

Above them is the essence of the land they live and protect/care for. It is a depiction of my home the cold skies of Tenterfield with the swirling clouds and giant moon, a place around the fire is where the next Generation find their strength, vision and legacy.”

It’s also the time of year when we especially love sharing our bush tucker incursion with all the keen kids in holiday care. Can’t wait to see you all this week! 🌱😀

Some Saturday evening beauty…

“Raku Inoue, a multidisciplinary artist, was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1983 and is now based in Montreal, Canada.
After studying basic art forms including drawing, painting and handcrafting, he also learned digital photography and its requirements such as lighting, image composition, capturing colours and post-production-editing.
While Inoue used to be known for his polymer clay sculptures, his recent works mainly feature organic materials like flowers, leaves and stems of various flora species and have attracted international attention.
It is through many different methods and techniques that he challenges himself to continuously evolve as an artist.”
