How interesting?

At the June 2024 Ordinary Council meeting held yesterday the 4 of us supported keeping the Port Macquarie -Hastings moving forward by approving Council’s ambitious $205.5m record Capital Works spend. These capital works are spread across, amongst other things roads, water and sewer for 2024-2025. This program represents a significant investment in the construction and renewal of community assets in the Port Macquarie Hastings LGA, inclusive of a rate freeze.

Councillors Judge and Cassell are speaking at the Jetty Caboose today, apparently in favour of a sketch under the banner of Foreshores For All.
This is not the plan which indicates Council's resolved position.
My question is, are they speaking on behalf of Council? Well no, they can't be.
So they must be speaking on behalf of the political parties which they represent on Council.
Labor and The Greens.
Only my opinion of course

2500 construction companies have collapsed in Australia, so far this year.
This is extraordinary when it is considered how much the cost of new homes has risen, even though the majority of the failures would have occurred in the commercial sector.

What a fantastic initiative

For all who have been getting it wrong down at the Jetty Foreshores.

Approvals for new apartments have significantly increased in Australia in recent years, predominantly driven by apartment buildings with four or more storeys. The number of dwellings approved in four or more storey apartment buildings rose from 29,695 in the 2012-13 financial year to a peak of 72,25...

The claims that high rise is planned for the Jetty Foreshores is false and misleading.

There is a lot of research which is easily accessible however, the most recognised authority on what is defined as a high rise building, is the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which states that high rise is 9 -19 stories.
4 - 8 stories is defined as mid rise. The plan for the Jetty Foreshores has by definition, no high rise, the majority being low rise, up to 3 story, with some mid rise, being up to 6 story - not 8 which is still defined as mid rise.

The 3 tiers of government, governing Australia, within Australia, being Local Government, State Government and Federal Government have differing levels of hierarchy, with Federal Government being the highest level.
Regardless as to whatever view anyone has in relation to the proposed revitalisation of the Jetty Foreshores, any claim that high rise is proposed at the Jetty Foreshores, is by definition, false and misleading.

As detailed in this Facebook profile, all opinions on this page are my own and are not those of Council.

Council meeting 9.05, part 2.
The Mayoral minute to gain Councillor support to hold a Poll in conjunction with the upcoming September Council elections.
The cost of $70,000 for 1 question to be asked, is to come from the 2024/25 election fund budget, which has yet to be set.
This poll will not be compulsory, the outcome does not have to be considered nor acted on by the incoming Council.
So for me, in my opinion, it was a "No".

DEAR News Of The Area, THE revitalisation of the Jetty Foreshores will provide the much needed boost to what was once the major economic driver of the Coffs Harbour economy, being tourism. It has been over 30 years since the tourism offering in Coffs Harbour has seen any new accommodation offered. M...

Council meeting last night dealt with some interesting items.
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery was the first item, resulting in the Gallery advising Council that it did not require any ongoing funding from Council and that thanks to local investors they were now solvent and had paid the rent arrears to Council.
The debate surrounding the continued tenancy of the Bunker by the Gallery went on for a very, very long time.
Having spent well over 20 years dealing with commercial tenancies and the rights of commercial landlords and tenants, I thought that at the end of the day it was really a very simple, legally clear position.
The tenant had been paying rent for 4 years in accordance with a lease, that even, it had not been signed, the tenant was paying in accordance e with the terms and conditions.
What the legal status was of the tenant, how they were trading, what they intended to do, really had nothing to do with the Council.
As long as they paid their rent to Council, did not want any more handouts, then anything else really had nothing to do with Council.
Even though Councillor Townley wanted to put through an amendment which basically wanted the whole tenancy to start afresh with negotiations to start from scratch, supported by ouncillor Judge, at the end of the day, the vote in support of continuing the tenancy passed una nimously.
Even though Council had assisted the Bunker Gallery financially, The Gallery had successfully secured a $2.7m Government grant, which turned an unwanted, useless asset, into a highly valued building.
Congratulations to those members of the community who made this happen.
More to come.
