Mid North Coast Rugby Northern Pick and Go Previews

Port Macquarie Pirates Rugby Union Club v Grafton Redmen Rugby

Simple equation for both teams, the winner absolutely guarantees a Home Semi next week
The Pirates win it cements the Minor Premiership and the home Major Semi
The Redmen win it cements a home minor semi final and their best place finish since 2018.

Throw in the spice that in both meetings this year, the Redmen have knocked off this year and suddenly their is a fuse 🧨 lit on this fixture.

Hastings Valley Vikings Rugby Union Club v Kempsey Cannonballs

Hastings will be lookinh to put a full stop on the end of the season with a good win.

Kempsey will be looking to move off the bottom of the ladder and hand their opposition the wooden spoon.

You get the feeling this could be one of the most exciting clashes of the year.

🆚 Manning River Ratz Rugby Club v Wallamba Bulls Rugby Union Club
📍 Ratz Park Taree
⏰ 3.00pm

The ledger sits at One win a piece, with the Ratz best victory of the season so far bring their Round 11 nailbiter 14-12 victory at Nabiac
Way back in Round 1 the super Round at Coffs, the Bulls proved too classy winning 35-0

The competition has a pre finals bye next week, the Bulls wrapped up the minor premiership already so it will be interesting to see if Coach Daniel Sawyer, puts a few stars 🌟 on ice and rotates his squad for this one.

The Ratz are eyeing off 3rd place and that critical higher racking (especially with the unknown of weather), they sit 3 competition points behind the Clams, they have to win to put all the pressure back in the Clams court.

Coffs Harbour Snappers Rugby Union Football Club v SCU Marlins Rugby
📍 BayRange Rugby Park
⏰ 3.15pm

The Coffs Harbour Snappers host the SCU Marlins for the first time this year in the Reschudled Round 6 fixture.

The Snappers need a lot to go right to steal the minor premiership off the Pirates, first thing is win with a bonus point, and see how the rest of the cards fall.

The Marlins sit 4 competition point behind the 3rd place Grafton Redmen and the right to host the minor semi. The only to way to be in the running is too knock off their cross town arch rivals.

Throw in the Snappers are aiming to Clean Sweep their rivals for the 2nd year in a row.

Hasting Valley Vikings host the SCU Marlins in a match that will have heaps of feeling. These two sides have had a few cracking battles in finals across the years, this time the Vikings are playing for pride and the Marlins are looking to staying in touch with 3rd place.

These two teams have played twice this year, with the ledger sitting at 1 win a piece.
The Vikings took out the Round 5 clash 17-10,
The Marlins took out the Round 10 clash 41-21

Both sides didn’t get on the park last week, with the Vikings having the Port Derby washed out and the Marlins clash with Kempsey not preceding.

These two forward packs will be looking to revel in the wet and wild conditions at Oxley Oval. Look for the twin towers Harry Bylsma and Ben Pursell to take the game up to the Marlins.
The Marlins will be looking to get down and dirty and earn the right to go forward, with llaisa Tuinabua and Anare Ratulutu the go too for the rumble.

Hopefully the conditions allow the backs to get some quality ball, with both teams having the talent to put on a show. The Vikings centres both have dangerous running games and if they get loose watch out 👀. Watch out for the Young Guns of the Marlins, with Xavier Cooper-Hisa and Chayton Chang leading the charge of the young brigade.

Marlins carry the favourite tag into this one, will the burden of chasing a 3rd place finish provide the Vikings a foot hold to pick up some pride last in the season.

The Old Bar Clams 🔴⚪️🔵 take on the Forster Tuncurry Dolphins 🐬 in a 3rd v 2nd match up.
This game had been transferred to the Dolphins home ground due to the wet weather ☔️

The Clams can’t catch the Dolphins on the ladder, but they sure can send a message, by fronting up and knocking down their more fancied opponents.

In two match ups this year, it’s a win to the Dolphins and a draw.
Round 5 saw the Dolphins secure a strong 38-14 victory
Round 10 saw a 22 all draw, in one of the clams strongest games of the year.

Last week the Clams had the bye, with their last match being a Round 13 defeat away against the Bulls.
The Dolphins hosted the Bulls in horrid conditions last week, with that game ending in a 10 all draw.

With the wet conditions showing up again this weekend, this could be another low scoring grind. With the ball kept in tight and the collision zone deciding the game.
Look for the ball carriers of the Clams pack to take it up to the Dolphins pack, with Jackson Wall, Teia Ambrosoli and Josh McCann in for a mountain of work today.
The Dolphins will be again working on finding that balance between shifting the ball and ball security, with a combination of punch 🥊 and shift. Ben Manning the big man up front and his front partner Kaleb Trudgett provide the punch and look for Sean Hasset at the back of the scrum to provide the threat in the wider chanels after scoring a double ✌️ last week.

Taking advantage of the wet conditions and turning around your opponents in crucial, with the double team of Touts from the Clams very experienced in playing the conditions and pulling the right levers when needed.
The playmakers from the Dolphins Liam Harris and Callum Crawford Walker will take good confidence from last week and will look to continue to improve their skills in turning the screws and playing the territory game in wet conditions with the finals fast approaching.

The Clams have been the big improvers this year, a big scalp right before the finals would be the perfect launch pad into giving this competition a real shake. The Dolphins sit just one point off top place and will be doing everything in the power to keep the heat on the Bulls.
The Dolphins start as warm favourites here, but write the Clams off at your own peril‼️
This promises to be a cracking match of Rugby

It’s a shootout for the Minor Premiership, with the winner in the box seat to win the first piece of silverware and host the Major Premiership.

The Snappers 🔴⚫️ host the Pirates 🏴‍☠️ in the game of the Round and what is quite possibly the game of the regular season!

Bayrange Rugby Park will be rocking with a crowd full of anticipation, with this clash being many pundits preview of the Grand Final.

But as they say the finals are a different beast, taking out this one and getting the mental edge handing into the finals would be huge!

The Snappers had a bruising contest just two days ago, walking away with a late 17-13 victory over the Redmen, can they get their recovery right and fire on all cylinders for this clash?

The Pirates had their Round 14 port derby washed out last week, their last match was a Round 13 home victory over the Marlins

These sides have meet twice this year, with the Pirates taking the victory both times ✅✅.
Round 5 saw the Pirates win 24-15 at Stuarts Park
Round 10 saw the Pirates win 32-30 at Bayrange
It has been the boot 🥾 of five eight Jesse Suitor that has been the difference in both games, with the Snappers scoring 5 tries to 4 tries in the Round 10 clash.

A bit of rain around this weekend will see this game become a war of attrition, with both sides going large and powerful in the back three of the scrum, with the Snappers calling up Cameron Sweeney to the No.8 spot (to replace the suspended Freddy Ralulu) and the Pirates returning the hard running Kaes Besseling to the No.8 spot to set up a epic clash of two long term MNC star players.

A battle of the Young Gun 🔫 Tens, sees Darcy Cruickshanks handle the keys 🔑 to the backline taking on the impressive Jesse Suitor who has lit 🔥 up the competition in his first full year of seniors. How good is too see these young players in key roles, and in this finals like intensity match a perfect time to build their confidence and resilience.

The Snappers Daniele Yaya has been on absolute heater 🔥🔥🔥 of late, 4 tries in the last two games and the Pirates coaching staff will be formulating ways to put the clamps 🗜️ on him.
They have their own weapons out wide with both Connor Robinson and Kaylan Morris having purple patches 🟣 throughout the season.

So much on the line, so many key match ups finals rugby comes early to the Mid North Coast‼️
The Pirates are aiming for the regular season clean sweep 🧹 but I get the feeling the Snappers will be battle harden from Thursday night and come out on fire 🔥 and pip the Pirates at the post to take some serious momentum with the finals around the corner.
