THE Block co-host Shelley Craft will visit Coffs Harbour next week as part of a Healthy Ageing Roadshow.
The roadshow, presented by Glaxo Smith Kline Australia Pty Ltd (GSK) and the Country Women’s Association (CWA) of NSW, aims to provide access to important health information to the people of Coffs Harbour, Wauchope, McLean and Kyogle.

It will highlight key health topics relevant to older, regional Australians and provide practical tips to promote long-term wellbeing.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reports those living in regional communities experience health inequities which can lead to poorer health outcomes, higher risk of disease and injury, greater disease burden, and shorter lifespans.

Regional residents also face significant challenges in accessing health services compared to Australians living in metropolitan areas.

Ms Craft, a well known Australian TV personality, will be joined by specialist GP Dr Lisa Beecham to unpack a range of topics, including: the impact of age-related decline in immunity, having better conversations with your GP, managing chronic conditions and viral diseases (like shingles and RSV), and the importance of nutrition, exercise and mental health.

“You can expect to live 2.2 years longer if you live in a major city and we are hoping to help people address this,” Dr Beecham said.

“We are looking at the areas that people can help themselves to live longer, such as exercise, fall prevention, keeping up vaccinations, good nutrition and social connection.”

The Healthy Aging Roadshow will be held on Wednesday 31 July from 9:00am until 11:00am at the CWA Hall, 3 Dalley Street, Coffs Harbour.

Attendance is free.

The roadshows are aimed at CWA members, however non-members can express interest and find out more information by emailing [email protected].

Police have renewed their appeal for information after human remains were located at a Coffs Harbour beach last month.

About 10am on Tuesday 18 June 2024, police were called to Jetty Beach at Coffs Harbour following reports human remains were located.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District located the remains wearing a 'Bras N Things' singlet top and blue denim jeans.

Strike Force Osbox was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Inquiries have established that the remains appear to be those of a 50-60-year-old female, who is believed to have died sometime between 2020 and 2023.

Forensic testing is continuing; however, at this stage, she remains unidentified.

There are no matches between the human remains and missing person reports in the area.

Subsequent searches of the nearby area were conducted, revealing items of interest including:

Silver earrings
Hair clips
A Target-branded blue and white striped button up shirt
‘Harvey World Travel’ backpack
‘Laura Jones’ brand wallet
Reading glasses
A paperback book – ‘The Butterfly Summer’
Anyone with information is urged to contact Coffs/Clarence Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

CONSERVATORIUM UPGRADE HITS THE RIGHT NOTE

The Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium is celebrating the completion of a significant upgrade
thanks to $190,000 in funding from the former NSW Coalition Government.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh today joined Conservatorium Chair Lesley Schoer, Acting Artistic Director Dr Glen Hodges and other members of the Con team to officially mark the completion of the Air Conditioning Replacement Project.

Mr Singh said this upgrade, funded by the former NSW Liberals and Nationals Government’s Creative Capital Program, had delivered improved comfort for patrons and created a more welcoming
environment for artists and visitors from diverse backgrounds.

“This funding boost has paid dividends for our community by providing much-needed improvements at our beloved Conservatorium,” said Mr Singh, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Emergency Services and the North Coast.

“The Conservatorium staff, teachers, students, visitors and patrons are now enjoying the benefits which are flowing from the full replacement of the ageing air-conditioning system for the
performance space and facilities.

“This has been a wonderful investment in our cultural infrastructure on the Coffs Coast and it recognises the valuable role arts and culture are playing in our local community.

“This is all about providing first-class arts and cultural experiences by improving local venues.”
