Many of the PBS volunteer, staff and listening community are grieving the loss of one of the greats, Stranger Cole, who passed away on June 11 at the age of 83.

Cole was born in Kingston, Jamaica on July 26, 1942 and released his first single, Rough and Tough, in 1963. He is credited with creating the first reggae song with his hit, Bangarang, recorded in 1968.

The ska, reggae and rocksteady legend visited Naarm and PBS on a number of occasions, and performed at Jamaica Jump Up at The Gaso in 2015.

Guest host The Prof will feature some of Cole’s finest work on this Sunday's edition of the Blue Juice Radio Show, and Rick Howe paid tribute on today's episode of Riddim Yard; we're sure there will be love shown across the airwaves in the weeks to come.

"RIP to our dear friend Stranger Cole. A musical pioneer who lived his life to the fullest, bringing joy to everyone he met." - Rick Howe

Recent PBS Feature Album artists, the Tony Soprano Band, stop by PBS to celebrate their debut release, Downtempo 1.

The new record sits at the intersection of live band interplay and downtempo electronic music. Drawing from the language of breaks, sampling and loop-based composition, every sound on the record originates from live performance.

Catch the Tony Soprano Band live on Deeep Space for a special Studio 5 Live session. Tune in from 9am on Monday June 15 for an intimate set and interview with host Lloyd Briggs.

Naarm group the Sacred Cowboys formed in early 1982 by lead singer-songwriter Garry Gray and Mark Ferrie on bass, both drawing from their experiences in the local post-punk scene. The group have issued seven albums since their inception, with the latest record, In the Manifesto, recently released in March 2026. Their latest release shows the Sacred Cowboys do not indulge in one musical style. It’s a complex, atmospheric soundtrack with Gray’s uber cool delivery over sometimes sparse, sometimes weaving guitars and rich harmonies.

On Thursday June 11, the Sacred Cowboys swing by for an exclusive Studio 5 Live set on Junkyard PBS. Tune in from 7pm on Thursday June 11 for this special set and catch up with host Michael Mulholland.

This week’s PBS Feature Album is Terra Ignota, the long-awaited full length release from elusive Naarm-based fusion ensemble Krakatau.

Terra Ignota marks a return and an epochal shift for the group, a deep exploration of possible sonic spaces and a portent of things to come. In the years since 2016’s cosmic jazz funk-prog-spiritual 12” Tharsis Montes/Apogean Tide, Krakatau have worked on refining their craft as instrumentalists and writers, expanding further into the world of jazz and fusing influences from world folk music, contemporary jazz and the European post-minimalist music of the 1980s and early '90s.

Tune in all this week to hear tracks from Terra Ignota, and check out this week's full list of PBS Feature Sounds on our website: pbsfm.org.au/news/krakatau-terra-ignota
