Fans are speculating if a Boards of Canada comeback could be on the way, after mysterious VHS tapes were reportedly sent to regular buyers of Warp Records releases via Bleep’s distribution service.

A Reddit user posted a recording of a tape they received, which features a flickering copyright warning statement, alongside shortwave radio sounds and a distorted vocal.

One fan highlighted that the tape’s contorted background music is a “backwards” play of The Elegants’ ‘Little Star’, used by the elusive Scottish duo in their ‘Societas X Tape’, a two-hour mixtape broadcast on NTS Radio in 2019.

If the rumours are true, this would mark Boards of Canada’s first release since 2013’s ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’, which also featured a cryptic pre-release campaign.
