Join us for a day of inspiration, practical learning and connection at the **2026 WA Community Growing Conference**, bringing together community gardeners, volunteers, sustainability advocates and anyone passionate about growing food and building stronger communities.

Presented by **Community Gardens Australia** in partnership with **Grow It Local** and **Permaculture Australia**, this exciting event will be held at **The Wetlands Centre, Bibra Lake** on **Saturday 15 August, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm**.

The day features inspiring presentations from **Mel Logozzo**, **Brownwyn Chompff-Gliddon** and **Peg Davies**, along with a panel discussion on growing volunteer support and community engagement. We're also thrilled to welcome **Josh Byrne** as our special guest, joining us over lunch to share his passion for sustainable living and community action.

You'll explore practical ways to strengthen your garden, increase financial sustainability through renewable resources, make the most of your existing assets, and build lasting community support. Alongside the inspiring program, enjoy a delicious lunch, plenty of opportunities to network with fellow community food growers, and leave with fresh ideas, new connections and practical skills you can take back to your garden.

Five years ago this week, I started my verge garden.

It began with 78m² of weeds, a whole lot of cardboard, tube stock and mulch. Looking back at those first photos, it’s hard to believe it’s the same space.

Over the years I’ve watched it grow into a thriving habitat filled with native flowers, insects, birds and seasonal surprises. But gardening also comes with its fair share of heartbreak.

Last year, not a single everlasting appeared. After years of spectacular displays, I was devastated.

This year, I’ve been dedicated to taking matters into my own hands. I’ve spent weeks pruning, sowing seed and planting out seedlings I’ve raised myself in the hope of bringing them back.

And I’m back in action! 

I can’t wait to see the verge burst into colour again. Five years on, I’m still learning that a garden is never finished. It’s constantly changing, evolving and sometimes needs a helping hand.

Absolutely loving this Makuru planting guide from Urban Revolution Australia 🌱

One of my favourite things about gardening with the Noongar seasons is how much more connected it makes you feel to the rhythms of this place. Makuru is the perfect time to get cool-season crops, herbs, natives and everlastings into the ground while the rains return and the soil is still holding warmth.

If you’re in Perth and looking for heirloom seeds, seasonal planting inspo or a good excuse to start another garden bed, these guys are well worth following.

CAN YOU HELP? 🐢 We met Lisa today - she's the only Turtle Tracker looking after Little Rush Lake in Yangebup! She does an amazing job recording sightings, helping turtles cross roads during breeding season, and protecting nests, but she could use some help.
