This years generation of Rozenapis ignita is here! This species has been using the same hotel for 3 years in a row, making it easier for me to monitor them 🐝

I started growing food because I thought it would be fun to pick my own zucchinis. I had no idea it would completely reshape my life.

Once I began planting and harvesting, everything else slowly shifted. Homegrown food tasted better than anything I could buy. So I wanted to eat better. Better food made me feel better. Feeling better made me want to move more. Moving more made me realise how strong I could actually feel.

My garden became the place where I learned patience. The place where I slowed down. The place where Friday nights were spent watering seedlings instead of binge drinking my weekend away. I swapped hangovers for early mornings outside. I swapped convenience for nourishment. I swapped disconnect for community and found people who understood why watching a zucchini grow could be the highlight of my week.

Growing food changed my priorities. It changed my habits. It changed how I see myself. I am healthier. I am happier. I am more connected.

All because I put a few plants in the ground and let them change me.

‘The hour of power’ My favourite time to go on an insect safari in my backyard… times may vary, but over the warmer months it’s generally around 6.30-7.30pm. That’s when I snap most of my footage of roosting blue banded bees, and the damselflies sit still.

If you haven’t already, download iNaturalist, snap some of your backyard mates and join this year’s bug hunt! For more details, go and check out and or jump on the bughunt.org.au website.
