Happy Birthday Cooma Prison! 150 years young.

Established in 1873, it's original blue stone buildings still house inmates making it one of the oldest functioning correctional facilities in Australia. Even it's locks are pieces of living history.

Manager of Security Troy Seychelles says it's an honour to serve in such a historical institution. From frontier jail, to wartime document store, to boys home to todays medium/minimum security jail the building has seen many changes.

The centre transitions many inmates to life on the outside with work release programs and vocational training. The art program also encourages inmates to express their creative flair.

The Corrective Services NSW Museum in Cooma is well worth a visit and open daily 9-3pm (closed Sundays)
