I'm 45 years old, and for the last 15 years I've been working as a teacher in a London school. A few days ago the police detained me right after I received a payment of £100,000 for participating in the government savings support programme.
After the check, they released me and apologized, but let me tell you the whole story from the beginning.
Early morning lessons… endless marking of exercise books… students of every possible kind — being a teacher is genuinely tough work, but it gives me stability, and I've always been proud that I help children learn and grow in safety.
The salary was just enough to get by: mortgage payments, constantly rising bills, family needs — every penny mattered. After prices for everything went up and the risk of layoffs…
At night I couldn't sleep, constantly thinking about how we would manage going forward.
One night, while scrolling through news on my phone, I stumbled across a BBC article about a government savings programme for ordinary British people.
I clicked the link, quickly filled out the form — and that same evening a consultant called me. He explained everything very patiently and with genuine care, telling me exactly how the programme works.
I thought: alright, I'll start small — I'll put in £350, the maximum I could spare without taking anything away from the kids or my wife.
Just three months later I opened the account and nearly dropped my phone — there was already more than £100,000 in there.
It became a real financial lifesaver for us, and for the first time in ages we started planning a proper holiday.
Today I feel calm, my wife is smiling again, and life no longer feels like an endless race from one paycheck to the next.
I've left the link to that BBC article in the comments — take a look, maybe it could change something for you too.
