I have been terribly slack at posting on here lately. Trying to do allll the things is not working for me! But, I have been able to maintain my daily 5 minute training sessions with Indi, and am a few weeks in on training my pup Rosie for five minutes a day too. Today was their first joint session - I want to be able to train them individuallu but while the other dog is there, so this is the very first step. And they did great! What an absolute pleasure it was to be invited to judge the Snowy Valley Council Libraries Writing Competition for 2026. I was seriously impressed by the young authors who submitted their entries into the competition, and was blown away by the story-telling and ability to evoke emotion by our winners and runners-up. A huge congratulations to every single child who entered - you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

The winner and runner-up entries are on the Tumut Region Libraries original post. As a page full of dog lovers here at Louey’s Library, I do warn you that the two beautiful stories in the 9-13 age group both made me cry when I read them, so consider yourself warned (they are definitely worth reading, but maybe have some tissues handy).

Indi and I ventured across to Tumut last week to read and talk to an extremely well-behaved group of year 4 students. Thank you Tumut Region Libraries for having us both, we got some great questions and really enjoyed our visit. Extra special shout-out to all of the kids - at the end they all wanted to pat Indi, and with around 100 students, I asked that they give her one pat each and move on so that she wouldn’t get overwhelmed. And every single child did exactly what I asked!!! It may seem like a small thing, but I was so impressed and grateful, so well done year 4’s in Tumut!

I can’t wait to read all of their stories too! Good luck everyone, I’m sure your stories will be amazing 💜💜

As a children’s author who writes rhyming stories, it irks me that traditional publishers advise all aspiring writers NOT to write in rhyme (because it won’t be good enough to publish). How near-sighted is that?! Yes, you may have to trawl through some less-than-perfect rhymes, but if you make a blanket statement not to do it and/or you won’t even read any submissions that rhyme, how are you going to find the gems amongst the rubble? I have no doubt that there are plenty of prose submissions that are also not up to scratch, but I don’t see you telling people not to submit stories in prose.

(Incidentally, even with my shoddy marketing skills I’ve sold over 3000 rhyming picture books in just over two years, so clearly people will buy them).

“The Me I was Before”

Two Thespian Thursdays in a row - it’s a miracle!!!

This is one of my favourite poems that I have ever written, and hopefully it helps some other mums that maybe feel like this to feel less alone. I wrote it a year or two ago, and I do feel as though maybe I’m slowly clawing my way back to myself, but I still have a long way to go. Share if it resonates with you, or if you know someone who might like to hear it.
