“The Me I was Before”

Two Thespian Thursdays in a row - it’s a miracle!!!

This is one of my favourite poems that I have ever written, and hopefully it helps some other mums that maybe feel like this to feel less alone. I wrote it a year or two ago, and I do feel as though maybe I’m slowly clawing my way back to myself, but I still have a long way to go. Share if it resonates with you, or if you know someone who might like to hear it.

Thespian Thursday - “Sh*tty Friend”

If, like me, you’re always forgetting to reply to messages or stay in meaningful contact (i.e. not just memes) with friends, then you can probably relate to this poem. Share it with the people you forget to reply to, either to make them laugh and/or as an apology 😂

Enjoy!

We did it! 100 Days!!!

At the start of the year I set myself the challenge to train Indi for 5 minutes a day, every day. And today marks 100 DAYS IN A ROW!!!!!!

Indi’s learnt a lot of tricks, and our connection is a lot stronger than before. But more importantly, I’ve remembered how much I love training dogs, that I’m pretty good at it, and that I can in fact do something ‘new’ every single day (if only I could apply this to exercise 🙃). Every bit of training is on video - if you want to see how Indi’s progressed over time, you can see our videos over on tiktok at .

We’ll probably continue our daily training, but for now I’m just going to take a moment to reflect and be proud of the last 100 days.

Have a great weekend!!!

Training Tip Tuesday - you can’t reward a chocoholic with a banana!

I HATE bananas. In fact I detest them (sorry banana-lovers, I do recognise their value and think that they are a very conveniently packaged fruit, but alas, I can’t even stand the smell of them). If you needed me to help you out with something, and told me that you would give me a banana as payment, that would not motivate me at all. Offer me chocolate, on the other hand, and you would get a far more favourable response.

Our dogs are the same.

When training your dog, either particular skills or just what they can/can’t do around the house, it is important to remember that their reward needs to be something that THEY like, not what we think they like. Not all dogs love pats. Not all dogs love toys. Not all dogs love treats. If you give your dog something that they don’t particularly value as a ‘reward’, it will not reinforce the behaviour and make it more likely to occur in the future.

So don’t waste your or your dogs time - pay them with what THEY value, not with what you think they should value.

Training Tip Tuesday - Preparing your dog for the arrival of a new baby.

I’m tight on time this week so it’s a handheld front-camera video, but the information is solid.

Prior to having a baby, dogs are often the babies/children of the house, and I completely understand that. In order to help our dogs transition to a human baby:

👉 Change any rules/sleeping areas/routines BEFORE the baby arrives. This not only makes it less stressful for everyone in those first few days and weeks, but it also removes the possibility that the dog will make the connection between the baby and their world changing.

👉 Practice walking your dog with the pram BEFORE there is a baby in it! This allows you to work through any uncertainties/logistics before adding your precious newborn into the mix.

👉 NEVER tie your dog’s lead to the pram, because if something goes wrong (eg your dog sees a cat and gives chase) then it will go REALLY wrong if they’re attached to the pram.

Any questions? Put them in the comments and I’ll answer them for you 🙏

Thespian Thursday - My Inferior Mind

Ok, so maybe I’m taking a bit of poetic licence (haha - see what I did there? Boom boom tish 🥁😜) using the word thespian, but you should know by now that I love good alliteration, so forgive me. I don’t know if it’s age, kids, perimenopause, medication side effects or a combination of everything, but this is a pretty accurate summary of my life the last few years. Can you relate? Or know someone who might? Feel free to share 💜

Woohoo! Training Tip Tuesday two weeks in a row! Consistency is not always easy, but it will make a massive difference to the success of your training with your dog.

Let me know if there’s something regarding training your own dog that you’d like to know - I’ll bet whatever your question is, there’s someone else wondering the same thing…

Training Tip Tuesday #1!

And hopefully not the last 🤪😂 I have a lot of dog training knowledge rattling around in my brain, so have decided that once a week I will share a training tip (and because I love alliteration, it will be on Tuesdays). Please feel free to share, comment, ask questions, and if there’s a Training Tip Tuesday topic (see what I did there?) that you would like me to cover, then please reach out and let me know (comment or via DM is fine).

Thanks for watching!
