The Wooden People 🪵🌧️

Diving deeper into the mythology today..

This one comes from an old story in Mayan mythology.
In the Popol Vuh, the gods create different versions of humanity before getting it right.

The Wooden People are one of those failed creations. They look human, but they have no real soul, memory or understanding of where they came from.

They’re eventually destroyed by a great flood.

I really liked that idea for this record. Humanity existing, but without the things that actually make us human. Metaphors run deep

Blood In The Soil 🩸🌍

There’s something pretty fu**ed up about us as a species

We build, we destroy, we fight over land, money, power and belief, then somehow convince ourselves that the next time will be different.

Civilisations rise and fall. Wars change names. The technology gets better. The reasons somehow stay the same.

And underneath it all is the Earth, carrying the evidence of everything we keep doing to it.

This one is probably the ugliest track on the record. Drop C guitars, air raid sirens, dissonance and some very nasty drums. ⚡️

Primordial Soup 🌍🧬

Before the gods, before civilisation, before the flood, there was just Earth.

A strange, warm mixture of water, chemicals, minerals and organic matter, with energy constantly moving through it. Lightning, volcanic activity, heat and sunlight helping drive reactions over infinite stretches of time.

Somewhere in that mess, the ingredients for life began to emerge.

I love the idea that everything we are can ultimately be traced back to something so simple and chaotic. Before humans built anything, destroyed anything or gave meaning to anything, we were just part of the soup.

This is that beginning.

Apsû
In ancient Mesopotamian mythology, Apsû is the primordial freshwater ocean that existed before the ordered world. It represents the deep, original waters from which creation emerges.

I've actually referenced Apsû before, in my verse on The Abyss, the first song I was officially featured on back in 2010 with the old 7 man rap crew, Patriotik Natives.

The name also has another connection for me.

My cousin's studio (Oblivious) has been called The Abyss since 2012, and a huge amount of the music we've made over the years was recorded there.

So bringing Apsû into this record felt pretty natural.
