Last month, as part of a group from AIP Collective, one of my daughters and I travelled to the remote village of Ha'api in the Solomon Islands for an incredible week.

Intermittent power, no mobile signal and really just the bare necessities. Food, water, shelter and community. Pretty much 180 degrees from a resort.

It was perfect. We loved it.

Truly a life changing experience.

I have never been so immersed in a culture and community in such a short amount of time. They live very simply, want for very little, and are some of the happiest people I have ever known.

Here's a short video of just some of what we experienced. Leana Hola (thank you very much) Ha'api village and everyone that welcomed us into your lives.

This kind of immersive experience is a) not for everyone, and b) not readily available, but if you're interested in this kind of escape check out Freedom Adventures because they have something in the pipeline for next year.

* There were many projects over the period, one of which was installing solar to the school for their power, another looking into protecting 500ha of pristine virgin rainforest from logging companies, but the main reason we were there is that Green Heroes is currently developing an app (Sea Turtle ID) which will completely overhaul how sea turtles are monitored, tracking their location, migrations etc. all through non invasive measures, leveraged by the power of citizen science. This will dramatically affect how management and policies are formed to protect these much loved ambassadors of ocean conservation. Follow the Sea Turtle ID page for more!

** We also spent 2 nights on Tetepare, known as 'The Last Wild Island' to watch how their traditional rangers care for the land and their turtles, gifting them with camera equipment to be a part of the app when it launches.

Excited to announce that 'Loggerhead' is now available to rent + buy on demand, with a percentage of sales going towards further conservation efforts. Perfect for those in lockdown ;)

The trailer is below, but if you'd like to see the full film, head here:

Thank you!

"An endangered female loggerhead turtle has laid her eggs too late in the season for them to be viable. They stand no chance of surviving the rapidly cooling sand temperatures.

LOGGERHEAD chronicles the story of the inspiring efforts of a small village in Northern NSW, where community and various organisations come together to do everything possible to help a vulnerable species.

With ingenuity, cooperation and belief, and the blessings of indigenous elders, a small team sets out to make a difference."

Massive appreciation post for everyone that came to the 'Loggerhead' film premiere and support Green Heroes at the benefit event on Saturday.

Truly felt the spirit of community and seeing people react to something that has been put together with so much care and attention was humbling.

More screenings to be announced soon!

P.S. Only yesterday we discovered that June 12th, same day as the event, was "Loggerhead Day". Love synchronicity.

Just 3 days to go until this premieres for the first time.

What an amazing story to be a part of and an incredible story to be able to tell.

Event is now officially SOLD OUT - it's going to be a great night.

This is what I've been working on for the past 2 months.

LOGGERHEAD chronicles the story of the inspiring efforts of both community and various organisations coming together to do everything possible to help a vulnerable species.

It's premiering exclusively at Farm & Co Kingscliff on 12th June 2021 at the Green Heroes Benefit dinner, celebrating their incredible first 5 years.

Tickets for this family friendly fundraising event include for dinner (including drinks and dessert), entertainment and live music, prizes & giveaways.

They're limited and there's only a handful of tickets left (at around the $50 mark) at www.greenheroes.org.au/support.

There's plans for a couple of screenings over the next couple of months at selected venues but it won't be shared online in the immediate future, so this is the chance to see it.

Episode 8 follows the story of Brian - a resident brushtail possum.
Steve and Emma had noticed that something was not quite right with him so got in touch with Wildcare Australia Inc. to investigate further.

That call made all the difference.

It really shows the power of the public that care enough and the difference that can make.

This is the 8th film from this series that I've put together with Green Heroes and without a doubt my favourite.

Wildlife carers sharing their stories and their wishes and hopes for our native species. They would have to be among the most selfless, giving individuals I've come across.

Thanks to WIRES, Animal Rescue Cooperative, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation for making these possible.

Amazing! Charlie from has just won the Australian Wildlife Society Youth Conservation Award for helping during the black Summer bushfires and his part in founding the Wildlife Adoption Program. Youngest award winner since its inception in 1908! Bravo.

If you didn't see it already, here's the film Green Heroes and I put together early last year.

I am loving being involved in the Wildlife Rescue 101 series and feeling truly humbled learning so much about Australia's amazing native wildlife.

Fun fact I learnt during filming this: Some Eucalyptus species only flower at night, meaning that the only thing that pollenates them are bats. There body is covered in fur which collects and distributes pollen similar to how bees do, but on a massive scale.

Without bats? No more of those eucalypts...and without those eucalypts...no food for koalas.

Easy to see why they're a 'keystone species' - meaning they help define entire ecosystems.

Take a few minutes and check out episode 4 | Flying Foxes and Microbats.

We have more of these in the works and you'll be amazed at some of the footage and topics covered. Big shout out to Animal Rescue Cooperative, WIRES, Bats QLD, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation and the driving force behind these films, Green Heroes. Bravo.
