Some of the important cards , and documents you need once you settled to live here in Australia (From New Zealand)

Bank - recommended Commonwealth Bank as you can set this up 14 days before you leave NZ or any other country. They will ask if you have tax number from any country you live and work

Driver Licence - We are here in QLD. Easy convert from NZ to AU. You will decide how many years validity of youe locence and also declare health conditions as you will need a medical certificate clearance from GP. We got ours valid for 5 years for less than $200.

Medicare / Centrelink for CRN (Customer Reference Number) - If you are a big family like ours, best to go to the nearest Medicare/Centrelink branch to assist you. I had troubles doing this online, resubmitted 7 or 8 times but no go. Took a long time for Medicare to process (because of our long name) but with Centrelink (in getting your CRN) you get approved for Family Tax Benefit once you process this online. Unfortunately we don't qualify for Child Care Subsidy due to Residence status. Childcare costs per day here up to $150 😆

Immunization status Record ( Priority for the Kids) - Approach your local Child Health community clinic in your area or to your GP Practice to record this to AIR (Australian Immunisation Register) as you get extra $$$ for Family Tax Benefit. My 2 kids needed to have Meningoccocal ACWY only and yearly flu shots. This is free to your local chemist.

Health insurance - We chose HBF. Make sure when you apply for Medicare to request the Lifetime Health cover letter that states when you got Medicare approved as insurance will readjust how much you pay. As NZ citizens, we still get covered from Reciprocal Health Agreement while waiting for Medicare.

GP Practice registration- Best to get in early ASAP. Pay for the registration first and you can make a claim to Medicare with receipts if your Medicare was processed. Scripts are still to be paid for, if issued with health care card(From centrelink) they will charge you concessions rate. We pay our maintenance meds in full atm.

TFN (Tax File Number) - You can get yours and your kid's TFN. As a parent we have opened them Bank accounts for their savings. This is needed when you start work here in Australia.

More information to share and hopefully this would help you get settled. Patience is the key 🔑 when doing lots of paperwork.

Decided to get Nintendo Switch 2 for the kids to play with and wifey too! We got the bundle with a digital code for the game. Forgot to get extra SD card storage maybe next week~
