Looking for recommendations Roof Top Tent on a BOAT🛶⛺️- Hey Campers, Cruisers, and Gear Gurus! 👋 Stop Scrolling!

We have a question that's been rattling around our brains and we need the combined brainpower of the Camping world to figure this out!

Forget the truck bed, the trailer, or the 4x4 for a second please. We're seriously looking at mounting a Roof Top Tent (RTT) on our plate boat (a sturdy, flat-topped center console).

Yes, you read that right. A tent. On a boat. For overnight anchorages where we want quick, comfortable, and dry elevated sleeping that’s off the deck and away from any splash/critters.

The Big Question: Which RTT is Boat-Worthy and Why?

We need your brutally honest, experience-backed recommendations on RTT models, specifically focusing on how they'd fare in the aquatic environment that we will be subjecting it to.

👉 The Challenge: Give Us a Piece of Your Mind!

Plate Boat Crew: Have you EVER seen this done? What are the structural issues we need to consider? What's the maximum weight you'd safely put up there?

Camping/Caravan RTT Veterans: Which brands/models are known for their superior seals, marine-grade metal components, and mold-resistance? (Hard Shell vs. Soft Shell — which one would survive the sea better?)

The Sceptics: Tell us why this is a terrible idea and what we should do instead (e.g., a custom canvas bimini/enclosure).

Drop your model recommendations, your warnings, your CAD drawings, or even your sarcastic GIFs below! 😝 The RTT will go on the boat below ⬇️

🎣 Catch & Cook Lunch: Spanish Mackerel Perfection! Nothing beats a successful morning on the water followed by an immediate catch-and-cook session outdoors! 🤩

Today's haul? Beautiful Spanish Mackerel cutlets, cooked simply on the grill right next to the water! 🔥

To round it out, we served it up with some crunchy, fresh fried rice, loaded just with onions and cabbage for that perfect textural contrast against the flaky fish. Talk about fresh!

If you’re a fisher, you know this is the absolute best way to enjoy your hard work. This was lunch heaven!

What's your favourite way to cook fresh fish? Let us know below! 👇

What catches more crabs? A) Fresh Barramundi frames? 🐟 or B) Good old supermarket Chicken? 🍗 THE GREAT BAIT DEBATE! 🐟 vs 🍗

We headed deep into the Top End mangroves in the little tinny for a standalone Mud Crab mission. 🐊 But we had a serious question that needed answering! Which one catches more crabs?

We put both to the test against a massive 2-metre tide drop to see what would bring home dinner. The winner got turned into the most incredible Mud Crab Linguine back at home! 🍝🦀

👇 DROP A COMMENT BELOW: What’s your go-to crab bait? Are you Team Fish or Team Chicken? Let us know which one you think won the day!

Post-Cyclone Reflection: Unscathed and Grateful in Darwin, Australia 🙏

We feel incredibly grateful to report that we are completely unscathed!

While the winds certainly roared and rattled our nerves, the damage at our place was minimal, considering the sheer power of a Cat 3 cyclone

We had a few younger trees that decided to lie down for a nap on the lawn. Our only significant structural damage came from one very large tree that unfortunately decided to take out a section of our perimeter fence. Another tree next to our shed decided to also fall over. It's a bigger cleanup job, but definitely a fixable one.

When you hear the forecasts and experience the force of those winds, you prepare for the absolute worst. To look around and see our home intact, with only minor, manageable issues, is a powerful reminder of how lucky we are.

All is well that ends well. We're safe, still wet and ready for the cleanup phase. We send our thoughts to anyone who experienced more significant impacts and wish everyone a smooth and quick recovery.

Now, time for a big cup of tea and some fence repair planning! What were your first priorities when a big storm has passed? Eating? Drinkin? Cleaning? All of the above?

Cyclone Survival Protocol: Eat!🌪️🙌

Status: Grounded.
Skipper's Location: The Kitchen.
Menu: 🍔 Hamburgers with the lot (onions, toasted buns essential!)
🍩 Donuts (strategic sugar intake)
☕ Tea & Coffee (IV drip attached)

Since we can't chase fish, we're chasing calories. Hope fans you’re all hunkered down and eating well too! 😜

We anticipate that this is the worst it will be with this cyclone. We cleared our yard, took down all awnings as it would be dangerous if dettached from the poles. Candlelit dinners are guaranteed for the next few nights with no power. There are massive gusts of wind and plenty of rain.

Welcome to The 60-Minute Beach: The World’s Most Beautiful (and Banned) Shoreline. You’ve seen the pictures, but nothing compares to swimming onto this exclusive Montebello Island spot. It’s notorious for its history (yes, the R-word ☢️), which is why the official recommendation is a max 60-minute stay. ⏱️ But between the crystal water and the blinding white sand, you’ll see why the A-list anchors their yachts here. 👇 Tell us: Would you risk the hour limit for this view?

🤣 Our Daily Dose of Kookaburra Comedy (and Transactions!) 🐦

For years, we've been living with the most unbelievable co-habitation agreement you could imagine, and the principal leaseholder is a demanding female Kookaburra. (Though, fun fact, we have never officially given her a name! She’s just… The Kookaburra.)

If you think your relationship with your pet is unique, wait 'til you hear about our daily exchanges with this loud, feathered character! 📢

🌅 Morning Riser, Afternoon Demander

Our day begins precisely when the sun cracks the horizon, thanks to her. The Kookaburra wakes us up at the dawn of light with her famous, booming laughter. As we rouse from our sleep, we can't help but chuckle—it’s the most magnificent and persistent alarm clock nature has to offer!

The morning cackle is just the warm-up, however.

🏡 The Afternoon Welcome Committee & Her Strict Terms

It doesn't matter if we've been gone for 8 hours or 8 minutes—every single afternoon, as we pull into the driveway, there she is. Perched on the highest point of the pergola, or sometimes even sitting on the mailbox, she never misses saying hello. Her greeting is the loudest, most joyous, and sometimes most menacing cackle you can imagine. It's our own personal, wild doorbell.

We could be completely out of sight for days, but as soon as the car is within earshot, she knows. They say birds recognize faces—and judging by the precision of her afternoon timing, we absolutely believe it! She knows our faces, our car, and our routine** better than we do.

But this isn't just a friendly greeting; it's a transaction with strict terms and conditions. Our condition is simple: we must sit at the outside bar on the back patio and properly acknowledge her (usually with a few small snacks).

If we are late, or attempt to ignore our duty, the consequences are immediate:

In the Garden: She will fly right in front of us, cutting us off mid-step to demand our attention.

In the House:If we are inside and fail to sit at the bar on time, she takes matters into her own wings. She flies straight against the glass door, “knocking" herself in a surprisingly loud and forceful manner until we comply.

She makes sure we know she is there, and she will not be ignored!

👩‍👧‍👦 The Progeny Parade

The most touching (and hilarious) part of this long-term relationship is the annual introduction ceremony. Over the years, she has brought almost every one of her fledglings to our house. It’s like a feathered "meet the parents" event!

The Introduction: She brings the wobbly, oversized babies—often three or four at a time—and parks them right in front of the window or on the nearest fence post.

The Lesson: She then proceeds to demonstrate the proper 'kookaburra greeting' (a frantic, shaking laugh) and the essential 'human transaction' (accepting a small, designated piece of meat from a specific hand, or simply watching us calmly).

The Legacy:She's essentially passing on the family secret: "These humans are safe, slightly scatter-brained, and a good source of small snacks. Treat them with cautious enthusiasm, but DO NOT let them forget the bar time."

We feel like godparents to an entire generation of laughing birds! 😂
