Our thoughts are with Alice Springs and Central Australia communities today as parts of the Todd River break it's banks and floodwaters begin impacting roads in some areas.

I was in Alice two weeks ago when the Todd was flowing, but early reports suggest the flooding now is already much higher.

SecureNT is providing updates on which roads are impassable. Please remember: if it’s flooded, forget it.

It’s crazy to see how many times the Todd has flooded this summer. Stay safe in the Red Centre.

She’s a beauty! Today the Top End welcomes Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 and her roughly 3,500 passengers and crew to Darwin. Arriving from Queensland and in port for the day, before continuing on to Indonesia, she’s a magnificent sight from Stokes Hill Wharf.

The Chief Minister has announced a second pump at the Darwin River Dam is now operational!

Huge shout out to all the Power and Water teams who have been working around the clock to make this happen! If we could shout you all a beer, we would!

Please Note: The NT Health boil water alert is still in place.

Some good news! Water restrictions still apply as does boiling of water and we look forward to further updates from Power and Water in due course.

Power and Water UPDATE: 8pm
A quick Darwin River Dam update: we're still not seeing enough of a reduction in water use.

We ask again for residents in the Greater Darwin Region to please use water only for essential purposes while we work to bring Darwin River Dam back online.

Essential use includes:
➡️ Drinking
➡️ Cooking
➡️ Basic hygiene – flushing the toilet, hand washing and short showers (under 2 minutes)

NT Health has issued a boil water alert for the Greater Darwin Region. You should boil water for drinking, brushing teeth and preparing baby formula.

Our crews are at Darwin River Dam, with these pictures showing some of the equipment and supplies that have been taken out to site. But we need time to make all the necessary repairs.

You can help us by reducing your water use.

Thank you.

LATEST Power and Water UPDATE: Tue 10 March 2.50pm ⬇️

Work is underway to bring the Darwin River Dam pump station back into operation as quickly as is safely possible, but we aren’t seeing the drop in demand for water we need while this work continues.

To help reduce demand, we need to reduce water pressure across the network.

When this happens, you may notice some discolouration in water colour due to changes in pressure and flow.

Information on how to disinfect water is available on the SecureNT website.

Residents in the Greater Darwin Region must only use water for essential purposes and continue to follow the NT Health boil water alert, including boiling water for drinking, brushing teeth and preparing baby formula.

Essential use includes:
➡️ Drinking
➡️ Cooking
➡️ Basic hygiene – flushing the toilet, hand washing and short showers (under 3 minutes)

We are doing everything we can to restore normal operations and thank Darwin residents for continuing to reduce their water use.
We will continue to keep the community updated as more information becomes available.
