A road rage incident in which a Canberra man was stabbed last year has landed his attacker, Nikorn Phonsaya, with a jail sentence of over three years.

The court heard Phonsaya was tailgating another car until the victim pulled over, and after a verbal exchange he produced a knife and stabbed the victim.

Police say a plane crash in the NSW Snowy Mountains was not survivable.

Bega man David Stephens, 74, is believed to have been piloting the aircraft.

Police will continue to investigate the wreckage today.

The ACT's $1.6 million hybrid electric firefighting vehicle is off the road again due to battery issues, after being side lined in January due to an issue with its main water hose pump.

An ACT Auditor-General's report has slammed the process used for procuring the truck, saying it failed to adequately assess the vehicle's value for money.

Queanbeyan man Scott Alexander McDougall was given two life sentences for the 2008 murder of Struan Bolas and Julie Tattersall with a meat cleaver.

Ms Tattersall's family were informed this week McDougall has applied for a program which could see him given short-term release, to assist with reintegration into the community.

The court heard Angus Robertson's victim told him kissing was as far as she was willing to go during the incident in her accommodation.

ACT Health will soon roll out a pilot program allowing select Canberra general practitioners to diagnose ADHD and prescribe appropriate medication.

The pilot, starting in six months, will see around 20 doctors able to diagnose ADHD, and more than 50 able to prescribe stimulant drugs to young people.

One offender, 17-years-old, told police he thought he was going on a camping trip.

Former army officer cadet Jake Sullivan was sentenced in the ACT Supreme Court to more than three years jail for ra**ng a colleague from the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra in 2022.

The two had originally met some time before on a Tinder date and maintained a casual relationship for a while before parting.

The victim said she had agreed to have s*x with Sullivan, but withdrew her consent after she said he became aggressive and had hurt her.

The ACT looks set to record its worst flu season, with Canberra general practitioners seeing a recent spike in influenza cases.

The National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System shows there have been 4,020 ACT influenza cases this year to July 15, compared to 2,491 over the same period last year.

The territory's current worst year on record for flu cases was 2024, with 4,837 cases.

Fifty-seven years after his acts of bravery in the Vietnam War, Private Richard Norden has been posthumously awarded Australia's highest military honour, the Victoria Cross.

Private Norden served in the Vietnam War, but died in a motorcycle accident in Canberra in 1972.
