They will be cancelled if an electrical storm threatens.

As part of the National Day of Reflection about the dreadful attack at Bondi last Sunday, there will be an announcement and a minute's silence tonight at the Community Carols by Candlelight.

Candles are an essential part of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights and will be part of the event tonight when everyone can reflect together.

A reminder that today is a Total Fire Ban for much of our region. Check the map for details.

A Total Fire Ban is in place today, Sunday 21 December 2025, for the Greater Hunter, Central Ranges, North Western, Upper Central West Plains and Lower Central West Plains areas, with forecasts of high and extreme fire danger and hot and windy weather.

It's important you know your fire risk whether at home or if travelling and what you'll do if fire threatens. Take the time to discuss what you and your household will do. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

The Mitchell Highway is now open after earlier being closed in both directions at Wongarbon, due to a three-car crash at Beni Street.

Motorists are still advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.

Major Fire Update for the Beni Fire as of 06.12.2025 @ 7.34AM

The fire was downgraded to Advice level overnight but is still burning on both sides of the Dunedoo Road/Golden Highway, and burning in a southerly and easterly direction.

The fire is currently 196 hectares in size and is being controlled.

Old Mendooran Road and Dunedoo Road remain closed.

-North western
-Illawarra/Shoalhaven

-Northern Riverina
-Lower Central West Plains
-Eastern Riverina

Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across most of the state, with areas of Extreme and High fire danger.
