Collected and Perfected
Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Dion Cross is a self professed 'collector of old things'. The older, dustier and more random the better. It’s these pieces of forgotten treasure that Dion pieces together to become impressive works of art, turning Dion into a renowned sculptor.

Hello Cocky
Can you hear this image? We sure can....it’s the beloved cockatoo’s most common call; that distinctive (and loud) screech ending with a slight upward inflection. The more of them there are, the louder the party gets! Just a part of the fabric of our Aussie lives.

A moment for Mac the Maremma
Look at that face! It’s the face of a job well done and another day in the books as the hens' best friend, protecting his flock from danger.
The flock in question is Tim and Nikki Sweeny’s flock of over 1000 hens which produce free range pastured eggs on their property in Guluguba, known in the market as Guluguba Pastures.
For more on their story of bringing hens to their cattle property, turn to page 119 of our Winter issue.

A place to meet
The majestic Bunya Mountains were once the spiritual home of indigenous people from all over Australia and every three years tribes would gather to strengthen their alliances through their kinship system.
In modern times this 120 metre long stone and concrete rainbow serpent was created to serve as a ‘Dhakkin’, a meeting place for today.
To learn more about the ‘Dhakkin’ and the incredible Bunya landscape, turn to page 26 of our Winter issue.

Think Pink! 💕
That’s exactly what the daughters of breast cancer survivor Alysoun Cooke, Courtney, Kimberley, Sophie and Holly did when they came up with the idea for a ‘Pink Luncheon’ to offer support to women fighting breast cancer and their families and to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Their two ‘Pink’ Luncheons held in Dirranbandi have been a resounding success raising over $42,000 for the cause.

It’s in the blood
For Kate Southern who hails from ‘Secret Plains’, a property 80 km north west of St. George, campdrafting isn’t just a sport, it's in her blood with both her parents and grandfathers on both sides of their family, heavily involved with the sport. Kate had her first win at eight years of age in her hometown draft riding her dad’s mare and her first big national win for a juvenile rider at age 16.

It’s a classic….
And thanks to owners Frank and Megan Deshon, the Hebel Hotel, once in danger of closing for good, is still going strong and breathing life into the tiny border town by the same name. Next time you’re headed north, book in to stay at one of their well appointed modern cabins, grab whatever you need from the General Store and cap off the night with a ‘cold one’ amongst a colourful cast of characters.
