At $72 for the Carousel Buffet Lunch at Royal Plaza on Scotts, I walked away stuffed and pretty impressed with the value, especially by Singapore standards where wine taxes make everything sting. The seafood spread did the heavy lifting for me: a solid mix of chilled cooked prawns that were fresh and sweet, plump scallops that tasted like they hadnât been sitting out all day, and excellent smoked and baked salmon that came with Capers and sauces - I built a decent plate of sushi and sashimi too, nothing wildly premium but fresh, clean, and well-handled, with Tuna being worth a mention.A side salad added some crunch between rounds. To wash it all down I started with a glass of Sileni NZ Sauvignon Blanc which was crisp and refreshing on the palate , a smart pairing for the seafood and worth it even though Singaporeâs wine prices are steep thanks to taxes. After clearing a couple of seafood plates I doubled down on the carving station where the medium rare roast beef was genuinely rosy, tender, and properly seasoned, and I loaded up on dauphinoise-style potatoes that were rich and golden, plus a side of creamy spinach that tasted like steakhouse comfort food. Naturally I switched to a French Cabernet, the house pour, which was perfectly serviceable with the beef .Desserts sealed the deal: there was a wide spread but the standout for me was a decadent bread and butter pudding, warm, custardy, and not too sweet, which I finished off with a solid Americano. All in all itâs a damn good meal for $72 when you factor in the range and quality, and the hotel itself helped. Royal Plaza on Scotts isnât super luxurious in a six-star sense, but itâs a comfortable, well-run 5-star that consistently gets rave reviews on Booking.com and Trip Advisor for service and cleanliness, and the location is a big selling point with Orchard Road shopping literally on the doorstep. If youâre a seafood and roast lover who wants to linger over lunch without blowing $150, Carousel hits the sweet spot. â
