Socialism has a long history in Queensland. For example, the Babinda Hotel was owned and operated by the Queensland Government in the early 1900s. The purchase helped to address public drunkenness, antisocial behaviour, and increased the supply of accommodation for workers, which was in short supply.

The problem today is not too much government; the problem is that government has walked away from so many important areas. I’m not suggesting we nationalise hotels, but today’s government needs to step up and get back into so many areas of the economy, working not for private profit, but for the people!
