Well, someone clearly missed the memo that the Calder Freeway isn’t a racetrack. A probationary driver got a rude awakening on Monday after being clocked doing a spicy 159 km/h – fast enough to lose his licence!

Castlemaine Police were lying in wait with the radar gun ready. The moment this turbocharged fella flew past, they lit him up and pulled him over faster than you can say, “Mate, you’re cooked.”

After a quick chinwag and a peek at the readout, old mate's hot lap came to a screeching halt. His car? Now parked in the naughty corner for a 30-day breather, while he has a future date with the local magistrate.

Cops are reminding everyone – especially P-platers with more ego than sense – that the speed limit isn’t a vague suggestion. You floor it, you forfeit it. Simple as that.

Someone is not happy with the controversial new speed limit on the Pyrenees Highway between Chewton and Castlemaine! 🚫

A 50 km/h speed zone along a 6-kilometre stretch between White Gum Track in Chewton and Castlemaine has replaced a mix of 80km/h, 60km/h and 50km/h speed limits.

The highway provides an important link to other nearby towns including Chewton, Elphinstone and Taradale.
