In celebration of Indigenous culture, Lucky Bay Brewing will revamp its menu to feature local bush tucker-infused dishes and host live performances by First Nations artists this weekend.

Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation has teamed up with several other local organisations to produce a free NAIDOC community music event, bringing Perth-based Indigenous artists Phil Barlett and Billy Woodley to the brewery to perform.

Esperance’s Cannery Arts Centre is hosting the first solo exhibition of a local artist known for transforming textiles into treasures, showcasing more than 30 stunning quilts which reflect more than a decade-long creative journey.

WA Nationals member for Roe Peter Rundle has lodged a grievance in parliament calling for the State Government to fund the installation and operation of an MRI machine in Esperance.

The Roe MLA called for the government’s support in bringing an MRI machine to Esperance Health Campus, stating the community had indicated it would buy the machine if the State could fund installation.

Ensuring “once-in-a-generation” projects can be delivered while keeping costs low for residents is the main challenge of the Shire of Esperance’s latest budget, according to councillors.

The shire’s more than $50 million capital works program includes projects such as the James St cultural precinct and Myrup waste management facility, with $15.9m and $9.6m committed in the budget, respectively.

An Esperance tourism campaign which encourages travellers to visit the region while also preserving its outdoors, has been shortlisted for a prestigious nationwide travel marketing award.

In 2024, Australian tourism and travel company Australia’s Golden Outback collaborated with the Shire of Esperance to create the Esperance Promise — an initiative Esperance Tourism development manager Annabelle Hender said aimed to increase visitation and encourage safe and responsible travels.

Community and not-for-profit organisations in the Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern and South West regions have one week left to apply for a new round of funding aiming to support activities and events which benefit the community.

Southern Ports, which operates the Esperance, Albany and Bunbury ports, is calling for local organisations to apply for the latest round of its Community Investment Program by July 25.
