At the Shire meeting on Tuesday, two councillors addressed the behaviour of a fellow councillor.

One such councillor said the person in question made "an unwarranted, extremely disparaging speech" in the bid for Shire Deputy President.

Elected Ravensthorpe councillor Max Szulc sent a resignation letter to Ravensthorpe Shire CEO before he was set to appear at his first meeting as councillor on Tuesday.

Sitting Councillors returned.

Councillors Leonie de Haas and Sam Starcevich were both returned with comfortable majorities at this year’s Local Government elections for Esperance Shire.
In Town Ward, Cr de Haas polled 767 primary votes, followed by Garry McWilliam, 379, Alex Barrett, 375, Gerry Harp, 534, and Dennis Andre, 290.
After the distribution of preferences Cr de Haas, Mr Harp and Mr McWilliam were declared elected.
In Rural Ward, Cr Starcevich attracted 714 votes, followed by Natasha Burnett who polled 340.
Cr Starcevich was therefore declared elected for the single vacancy.
All successful councillors are to be sworn in before a special Council meeting on Tuesday, October 21 and are to serve four-year terms before the 2029 Local Government elections.
The deputy Shire President will also be elected on Tuesday.

An Education Department report has revealed it has the highest number of building defects compared to all public schools across the state.

It took three months of training and a great deal of mental strength for Jason Horton to roll his wheelchair from Perth to Esperance.

The new Esperance resident spent 10 days on the road, with his partner in support, raising money and awareness for causes close to his heart.

His epic feat ended with a well deserved pub feed.

No surprises as Ports' Zac Hill goes pick 1 for the Elders Insurance Invincibles in the 2025 Cape Le Grand Slam T20 draft.
He was followed by Jacob Bruinsma for Lister Electrical Sparks and Daniel Styles for the Elders Finance Flames with Alex Barrett picked up by the RSM Renegades with captain Hamish Thomas' first pick.
These four players make up the marquee quartet of first round signings in the inaugural Cape Le Grand Slam T20 draft.
