Easter is on the way, and it’s looking like a decent long weekend! (Although a bit wet on Good Friday)

We know everyone’s keen to hit the beaches and head out on the water—but please take care. Esperance is beautiful, but our coastline can be unforgiving.

Important reminders:
• Stay off the black rocks – they’re slippery and can be fatal. See something - Say something 🌊
• Check your boat’s b**g – is it tight?! And don’t launch without it.
• Check your fuel – and take enough for the return trip.
• Tell someone where you’re going and when you’re due back.
• And most importantly wear your life jackets and have emergency gear intact, in date and near you
Let’s all look after each other and make it home safely.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter from all of us at Marine Rescue Esperance 🐣

Well done Marine Rescue Esperance and all involved.

A shark hooked by the group bit the front of the boat causing it to partially deflate and take on water, damaging the fuel lines and engine.

If you're fishing off the rocks in Esperance, you should always use the rock anchor tie-on points, available at many popular spots and/or wear a life jacket. Never turn your back on the ocean and stay off the black rocks!

It's National Safe Boating Week - Sat 1 October - Friday 7 October 2022

Focus of National Safe Boating Week for 2022 is on Lifejackets and their effectiveness in saving lives by promoting the following steps:

• Lifejackets—Wear it and Maintain it.

• If you end up in the water, you are much more likely to survive if you are wearing a lifejacket.

• When accidents happen, there’s rarely time to put a lifejacket on.

• A lifejacket only works if you’re wearing it.

• There are many types of lifejackets available today that meet the appropriate Australian standards, find the style that works for you and wear it.

• Lifejackets must be maintained to ensure reliable operation - this includes self-inspection and servicing by accredited agents
