Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle hit our little town pretty hard. It’s been a long, exhausting few days and we were one of the lucky ones, with many people losing their belongings or homes. The coastline here has taken a beating, with dead or dying marine life scattered all over the carved out beaches. Thousands of turtle hatchlings and eggs lay still along the tideline while eroded nests protrude from the dunes. The effect this has had on the wildlife has been heart wrenching. Thankfully, this has been one of the most successful nesting seasons in a long time and many made it out before the cyclone. Even thismorning, we were elated to find a few survivors making their dash to the sea. I know for us it was a glimmer of hope and a testament to natures resilience and we hope it can be for anybody feeling a little heavy right now too. Although horrific to lose, things can be replaced. What matters is our community is safe and the effort to pull together and help eachother so far has been so incredible to see. Nature is amazingly resilient and we are too, hopefully we’ll be welcoming people back to this special place we call home really soon ~ even if it looks a little different for now.
